What a Difference a Decade Makes!
The title might remind you of the song, in its many versions and recordings from various artists, and even a slight change in title. You know...day, decade. Nevermind. Just a little fun on a Friday.
#1 – I’m 10 years older – see, I can do math. And I’m wiser (at least I think so). And I have more gray hair, and less of it. So what?! I’m alive and have a great life.
#2 – I’ve now been married 10 more years, and next month makes 40 and we’ll be celebrating in Maui. How cool is that?
#3 – I had no grandkids 10 years ago and neither daughter was married. They are both married now and we have 4 grandkids. Wow! What a life change…especially for them. And both have become homeowners in Los Angeles.
#4 – 10 years ago I was with RE/MAX Associates, but joined Solutions Real Estate in Carlsbad in January 2011. Sorry, my fellow RE/MAX friends…I don’t miss being with a big company.
#5 – 10 years ago I was the Treasurer for the Southern California Chapter of CRS (Council of Residential Specialists, now the Residential Real Estate Council – RRC), 2 years before serving as President in 2011. I continue to be involved in the organization at the state and national level. We’ll see what 2020 brings.
#6 – We were in our first house in Carlsbad after moving here from Boston in 2005. We are now in our 3rd Carlsbad house (and 10th home overall)! I’m positive we said that first Carlsbad house after leaving Boston was a forever house. What the heck happened!?
#7 – 10 years ago my sister was still alive...so were my uncle, my mother-in-law, and my aunt. 3 of the 4 died in 2011 within 2 months of each from cancer – that was a horrible year!
#8 – We were seeing lots of REOs and short sales. Now, 10 years later they are pretty scant and the market in many areas and price points favors sellers and has for years. We are seeing some shifts in the market, though.
#9 – The average price of a Carlsbad single family detached home in June 2009 was $658,955 (median price was $659,500). As of the May 2019 sales report it was $1,101,505 (median was $1,015,000). That’s a jump, on AVERAGE mind you, of 67%. There were 11% more sales today...not such a big difference.
#10 – I started writing my monthly market reports in July of 2009 beginning with Carlsbad. Back then, we had 408 detached single family homes for sale at the end of July, compared to 211 at the end of May 2019. That's 48% fewer homes on the market today.
Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!
