In December 2007, Baltimore County passed a law requiring landlords to register their rental properties and have them licensed. By July 1, 2008, all properties must be registered with the County and have passed an inspection by a licensed home inspector.

    We offer this service to any landlord on a per unit basis. I urge all clients to read and understand the County Requirements prior to the inspection to prevent the need and expense of a re-inspection. To facilitate this type of inspection, all inspected items should be easily accessible at the time of the inspection.

    The inspection includes the following items:

    * Smoke Detectors

    * Electrical System

    * Plumbing System

    * Proper Operation and Ventilation of Furnace, Water Heater, Washer & Dryer (if installed)

    * Proper Emergency Egress from Basement Sleeping Area

    * Proper Railings on Interior & Exterior Steps

    * Readily Observable Health & Safety Hazards

Since you're in Maryland, an area that requires a little more heating than here in San Diego, call the Powers-That-Be there and ask them why they don't require carbon monoxide detectors. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
