OK, I admit it, I love to mess with people. It's always in fun, but life is too serious. People need to laugh and I like bringing that laughter to them. I had my annual Dr.'s check up this past week. When I needed to call for my appointment, I looked up the office online.
When I found the page, it also had reviews from past clients. The doctor's received great reviews, but the staff had terrible reviews. I thought about my experiences there and I could see why they were so lopsided. That set my plan in motion. My goal was to make every staff member laugh in the course of my appointment.
I have to admit, a few were tough, but by the time I left the building, I had accomplished my goal. I interacted with 6 staff members and everyone was laughing when I left them. I listened to the last one interact with her next patient when I left her and she was incredibly sweet to that patient. She was rude when I walked up, but that all changed with a laugh. It was fascinating watching the staff members go from being a little rude and morose, to being friendly and lighting up with smiles.
They are in a serious business. People come in with all kinds of life-threatening issues and they are scared and hurting. Those patients aren't happy, and they pass that on to the staff. These staff members look death in the face on a daily basis. It would be easy to see why they are less than jovial. When you have the capacity to make someone smile, please do it. You never know what someone is going through. Have fun, go out and mess with a few people this week. I did take my show on the road before leaving and made a round of two waiting rooms. Again, laughs all around.
