You've heard that blogging is a really good thing to do, but why?

1. Your blog post gets you in front of your prospects.

Blogging is the process of publishing content onto the web. Each blog post serves
as a web page that can show up in search results. If your blog shows up in search
results to a local person or relocatee buying a home in the area, your blog gives
you the chance to show your knowledge and expertise in the area.

2. Blogs can boost your website rankings.

When you link back to your website in your blog, you are actually boosting the rankings
of your website. The Google crawlers count every inbound link to your website as a vote
for your website. If you write a blog post about a topic you want to achieve high rankings
for, say local home builders or foreclosures or home selling tips, and you link back to
your own website, your website will get a "boost" in search engine rankings for that topic.

3. Blogs are accessible to the universe, 24 / 7 / 365.

If you write a blog post, it is findable by everyone in the world any time day or night. This
is great for reaching people in other cities moving to your area. Blogs make information
more readily available at more convenient times. When you post stuff on the web about
your local area, you are taking a little bit of time to do a whole lot.

4. Blog posts are accessible online for infinity.

Unlike postcards or brochures which are usually discarded, a blog post can be written one
time, and remain accessible forever on the web. If the content is good enough, relevant
enough and unique enough, Google and/or Yahoo will serve it up for a very long time.
There's no other type of marketing that gives you that kind of power!

5. Blogs are free marketing!

You can get started blogging today for free. No need to pay for an expensive blog. Free
blogs are readily available through ActiveRain, Blogger or MySpace to name a few. You
don't have to spend a dime to start marketing your real estate practice online. If you don't
have time, you may consider outsourcing your blog writing, but if you're short on cash, you
can get started now for free.

Jenna, i could not agree with you more. Blogging has account for 3/4 of my sales effort this year so far. The best part is that it is low cost.

Jenna, Nice and concise view of blogs and you are correct in the power these have today.  Over 90% of my clients in the last three years have come from my and my partner's blogging.  I don't see this changing of the next few years. Now if I could only get some of my agents to do this I would be a happy guy....

Gotta love it when a prospective client says that he enjoys my blog! What great free advertising.
