At ClassifiedFlyerAds.com, we recently implemented a feature to help eBay store owners promote their stores and products online. This prompted me to get more familiar with eBay and do some research (I didn't want to be the only clueless one in the office!). So there I was snooping and poking and lurking my way around eBay, when I stumbled across the 'Real Estate' category.

eBay logoNow, Classified Flyer Ads has been providing eBay posting html for real estate flyers for a long time, so I knew in my head that eBay listed homes for sale. But seeing it in action just struck me as surprising. There were homes for auction bidding as well as "buy it now", commercial properties, residential, land and more! Wow, do people really look for homes on eBay???

The reasoning side of my brain started to kick in and I start asking myself all sorts of qustions, like:

"Do serious buyers search eBay for real estate?"

"Do real estate agents commonly list there, or is it mostly FSBO?"

"Is eBay an effective venue for selling real estate?"

Mostly all of the listings had several bids on them! I must say, I learned something new today, and am more and more intrigued as I go...

Have any of you had any experience with listing, selling, or buying real estate via eBay? I'm so curious now and would love to hear your stories!!

Candis, I think I am the only person who doesn't really shop on ebay?  I guess everything sells on ebay?

I have a agent buddy that spent 2K on Ebay ads and didnt sell a thing. Im not sure Ebay is or ever will be a real deal on selling homes or land in general practice.

Audrey - I just listed my first item for sale on eBay this week, so up until then, I had never ventured there either :) It's actually quite a fun community - so far.

Chip - Ouch. Sorry to hear that about your friend! Sounds like he paid for ads on eBay? The homes I was speaking of above were actual eBay listings, which as far as I know, cost just cents to list. But like I said, eBay is new territory for me, and I have not tried listing any property for sale there... only a picture frame so far!

While I love Ebay, I like Craigslist a lot better for real estate.

Hi Candis....nice to see you again :)  About a year ago I was looking at the Real Estate section of ebay.  I sell land, so it was scary to me all the things that could go wrong for a buyer.  I knew some of the areas....and I don't think it's a good idea.

I've bought a ton of things on e-bay, but Real Estate, not for me.

Hi Candis - I am curious about Ebay as well for a Real Estate marketing platform. I know from my point2 syndication service that they charge $300 per add which seems outrageous!

Joe - Yes, Craigslist no doubt is more "popular" for real estate related listings, I suspect largely due to the fact that the costs to list are much lower.

Kathy - Hi Kathy, good to "see" you too ;)  I see your point about the possible risks for selling land (or other real estate) on eBay, and that was my first impression when I saw all the homes for sale there. I was also surprised to see so many homes with several bids, and even some "buy it now". I guess it works for some people??

Bill - Curious is the word! In talking with Misty this morning, she said that a few agents that use our service have used the eBay posting html to post their listing on eBay. Hits to those flyers reached into several thousand. I guess the high volume of traffic eBay gets enables them to charge that high cost. I wonder what the quality of the traffic is though?

Chip - Hi again Chip. I wanted to re-respond to your comment above (I guess I was right when I said I didn't know much about eBay yet!). It does cost several hundred dollars to list real estate there, not cents as I thought. Silly me - I guess listing a picture frame is not the same as listing a house :)

Hi Candis - I haven't heard of anyone selling any homes on E-Bay, I have enjoyed looking at some of the listings, but as you only get such a small amount on E-Bay, most buyers I think would use craigs list or realtor.com.

Candis- I just left your site for ClassifiedFlyerAds.com .  I have an idea that I want to discuss with you guys.  It's out of the box, but I know how you work, and am confident that you can help me meet my needs.  Call me :)

I have been using craigslist and never had a hit on it, not even one.  I would think ebay may be better but who knows.
