Headlee Drug Store Searcy AR historic photo

A scene from the past.

This is a slightly tilted picture that I was allowed by Searcy Art Gallery to scan for this blog.  I don't think it was a postcard or it would not be so tilted.  But it is a great scene from the past.  Old cars, Coke signs.  Was it Headlee Drug Store or Headlee's Drug Store?

The building was at the corner of Center and Spring Streets downtown and reportedly Headlee had two drug stores.  Searcy Sleuths, am I right about that?  I definitely remember the last Headlee Drug Store.  It was extremely popular with Searcy folks who came to visit with friends, drink coffee and have good food.

The date?  Perhaps the age of the cars will reveal the approximate date.

Thanks, Searcy Art Gallery.

Looks like a scale on the left side of the picture. Something like the picture at this link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fredws/176382851

I think this was at the NE corner of Market and Spring. From the cars, it could be anytime during the early 1940's, before the post-war cars became common.

If I’m not mistaken, that is the present location of the Simpson Law Firm on the northeast corner of Spring and Market.

Hello Barbara - the photos you find are quite interesting especially those who receive attention from those your  followers who graciously leave comments.  I enjoy both - the vintage images and the insights of your guests.

Jeffrey, it DOES look like scales. I should have mentioned those among the memories in this picture.

Harold Gene, you are right.  It IS at the corner of Market and Spring.  What do the young kids say now, "My bad", which seems to mean I am sorry but makes no sense to me.  LOL

George Carder, you also proved me wrong.

Thanks to you two Searcy Super Sleuths!

This Headlle Drug Store was my go to place for vanilla ice cream with marshmellow topping sundae on my way back from the First Baptist Church on Sundays.

The other store was at the corner of W. Arch and N. Spring. It was a popular hang out for the high school crowd. It had a great soda fountain.

Just back from a 10 day land/cruise trip in Hawaii. Aloha!

Headlee’s was on my mail route when I carried downtown Searcy. It was my lunch place most days. A lot of the people that worked downtown eat there. A lot of good memories.

Don, thanks for helping with another blog.  You have a great memory.  How much did that marshmellow topping sundae cost?

My memory says 25 cents. That's about $2.50 in today's dollars.

Tom, there were lots of sad folks when it closed I would think.  Thanks for your comment.
