We received a call from our blog post on short sales in Port St Lucie Florida. This man and his wife need to do a short sale. We always qualify the homeowners to make sure they pass the hardship test and make sure they were not involved with any hanky panky in getting their loan. Please read this whole post to see how this senior needs our help.
As I began going down our list of questions Jerry tells me that he only makes $580 per month. His house payment is $2,700 per month and he has a car payment of $383 per month which he needs for work.
He is 60 years old and is a disabled Vietnam War Vet who was exposed to Agent Orange and therefore now has a certain form of Diabetes that you get from the exposure. He also has Parkinson's disease and his right hand shakes so much he can not write. He owns his own construction company and resurfaces kitchen cabinets and installs new kitchen cabinets. He is licensed to do kitchens from Port St Lucie north to Fort Pierce. Since January of this year he has only worked 10 days. Not his choice! Construction and remodels in the 3rd most foreclosed area of the country has come to a standstill.
The last job he bid on he lost to cheap labor. He bid his labor at $100 per day which is way below what he is worth! That to me is way more than cheap labor. Well, the lady who was reviewing the bids told him he was TOO HIGH, she had found someone cheaper! Oh my! Where is the dignity of people who hire contract labor! I would not bust my butt redoing someone's kitchen for $10 per hour!
They have been living on their savings. Those are all dried up now. He cashed in his retirement money, now that is all gone. He has applied at all types of places for a job and no one is hiring him. He was turned down for social security and disability. He owes the VA hospital money for his meds. He is on over 20 different meds a day. He can no longer pay for his meds.
The construction business has all but shut down in Port St Lucie Florida. Jerry is not a lazy man. He used his credit cards to take out newspaper ads, post fliers, send out mailers and network to market his services to drum up some jobs. We can get him work in Palm Beach county but he is not licensed here.
They have not made payments on their mortgage since January. He did not know what to do. There is nothing to work out with the lender because no matter how they reduce the rate or redo his loan he will no longer qualify. When it gets to this point, I always ask, Where are you going to go? How are you going to live? In this situation he will not even be able to rent a house! They want first, last and security! There is NO way!
The neighborhood they live in is full of wonderful giving neighbors. His neighbors next door- even though the husband is only in his 40's and is dying from skin cancer, they are the ones who are feeding Jerry and his wife. They have them come to dinner at their home next door. They have a home in Georgia and said that Jerry and his wife can live there for a while. They invited them to go to Georgia for the weekend to relieve some stress. He is so responsible he asked us if they could go because they did not want to fall back on what is required of them in the short sale. We told them to go and relax. To enjoy the change of scenery. Nothing will get done on the weekends with the lenders.
Now last week they got served their foreclosure lawsuit. That is when they called us. I only wish people would call us before this happens to them. We can help so much more if the homeowner calls us the minute they know they can not make a payment.
He must hire our attorney to defend this lawsuit and he only has 20 days to respond. We are going to give them $200 towards the $500 that they need for the attorney to start the defense. We need to raise the other $300.
We also want to raise some money for them to buy some food and some gas, to pay their water bill and electric bill.
So we are using our paypal account to help them. Please prayerfully give what is impressed upon you to give. If we all give just $10; this will add up fast and help this elderly disable vet who served our country and was disabled in the process. The paypal account number is JPisciotti1(at)bellsouth.net. 100% of the money raised will go directly to them and will be from The Active Rain Family. If you want to mail them a check, please email me and I will email you his name and address so you can send the check direct to him.
Also, if any of you reading live in Port St Lucie north to Fort Pierce Florida and can help him get work in the construction business please email me and I will get you together.
