VA Foreclosure

By
Real Estate Appraiser with North Country Appraisal Services

Everyone's pointing the finger at someone for the mortgage and foreclosure mess of today's market.  He's one to pull at your heartstrings.

Just called to schedule a VA foreclosure appraisal inspection.  The guy just got back from deployment to find his savings, wife, and family gone.  Add to that, his parents were picking up the mail and just told him no payments were made on the home while he was away and it's in foreclosure.  Fortunately, he has the money needed to bail out the house from his 401k but will have to jump through hoops to get it done.  I gave him some numbers to call to help him reach someone who can expedite this for him.

We've got to treat these servicemen and women better.

I hate to hear things like that.  Especially when it involves individuals in the Armed Forces who are putting their lives on the line for all of us.  Hope eveything turns out ok for him.

Isn't there a Soldiers and Sailors Act that prevents this?  I had something similar to this happend to a client a few years back and the Act saved him.

I'm sure there is the Soldiers and sailors Act which would cancel out these proceedings.  I did tell him that he needed to contact VA directly since they are very proactive on behalf of veterans.  I planned on giving him that contact info tomorrow.  I already gave him my number and contact information and offerred to assist any way I'm able.

Tina is correct-- I think that the Sailor and Soldier Relief Act ---will be his saving grace...

He needs to see the VA -- to get their help-- they are the big guns that he needs.

That's terrible, I hope he gets the help he needs and is able to save his home. Hopefully the VA can help him out, if there is an act as mentioned above.
