Who doesn't want to be popular? Who doesn't want a blog that's so on fire, someone's gotta call 911? Now, that's hot. It's going to take a little more than fire to get your blog up and going and well, to Mr. Popular status. There are so many blogs out there that you really have to be unique to stand out. Here are some fun ideas to keep your blog on fire! toot toot!
Great Content: Yes, we know this one. This is the #1, the big mamma, the big shabang! If you do not have good content, you will not have readers. Please try not to write just for the sake of writing. You might just shoot yourself in the foot if you do this. Try do research and focus on what you actually want to write. Make sure you have all your facts straight and then let'm have it!
Professional Template: As someone said before, we don't want our blogs looking like the baby edition of "Myspace". No one wants the bling bling and the flashing glitter when they come to visit your blog. If they wanted this they would have gone to, well...myspace. Keep it professional guys. If you have a professional blog, it must look professional. If you are itching for some glitter and some bling, go create another blog for your own personal satisfaction.
Have A Profile Picture: No one wants to subscribe to a blog that has no picture. It's kind of like you are a mystery if you don't have a picture. Other readers might possibly think that you are hiding something even if you aren't. It's always a good idea to show your face.
No Music: I know, I'm a music lover but many of us aren't. Even some of us music lovers really don't care for music on blogs. The last thing I want to hear is Billy Ray Cyrus singing "Don't Break My Heart". Don't take the chance on losing your readers by allowing music to be a part of your blog. If you do have music on your blog, make sure there is an "off" button so readers have the option of turning it off.
Length: This is also a humdinger. This can be very tricky. What if you have a subject that requires you to write a million words? As long as the topic is VERY interesting then I think you could get by with it. Usually, it's good to keep your posts short and sweet. Some of us have a terrible attention span. You don't want to lose your reader. If they think they are going to have to read a novel every time they come to your blog, it might scare them off.
Tutorials: Every one loves a good tutorial. Write about something that can educate your readers. I think tutorials are popular because they are usually easy and fun to read. If it's a topic that interest many then you might have hit the jack pot. Make sure your tutorial is easy to read and possibly do it in numerical order.
Series: This is another great way to get a readers attention and keep them coming back for more. Pick a great topic that you would like to make into a series. It must be interesting and catchy. It must keep the readers on their toes...'until next time'.
Commenting: We all know how important it is to comment on other people's blogs to get comments on our own. Have you ever thought about what kind of comments you are leaving? Think of all the other people that are reading those comments. If you come across as interesting, witting and wise while writing your comments, people might bounce over to your blog to see what you're all about.
Writing Style: Make sure that your writing style is easy to read. I've seen several blogs that are not in paragraph form and I just bounce right over them. They are not easy on the eye. It actually gives me a little headache. Make sure that you are doing your writing in paragraph form and that you are using a readable font. Also, make sure that the grammar is correct and that you use bold to highlight the important parts of your blog.
ReRead Post: You just start doing this now. Yes, we have that wonderful spell checker but we don't have any sort of reread program. lol It's good that you read back over what you have written to make sure you have gotten your point across. Sometimes after I read back over my blog, some parts do not make sense. So, I tweak it here and there to make it more understandable.
Stay On Topic: The last thing anyone wants to read is someone's ramblings. If you feel the need to ramble, again, create your own personal blog so you can get it out. It's very important that you stay on topic when blogging. If not, this is another simple way to lose your reader.
Write Something Funny: The best way to pull in readers is with personality. Try not to be dry and anul, unless you can't help it. People love a good laugh and you need to try to give it to them. Don't be afraid to be a little personal in your blog. We're all human and some people like to know that you are human. Of course, save the dirty jokes for the dinner table, (jk)
Interview Other Bloggers: This is a great idea. If you interview another blogger, they will probably post it on their blog that they have been interviewed and then others will scurry over to see what all the hoo haa is about. It's a great way to reach readers that didn't even know you exsisted.
Congratulate Top Commentors: Well, maybe you can't afford to hand out prizes but a great idea is to make a special blog for your top commentors. Doll it up. Add some flashy pictures with their own personal pictures and their names. People love to see their names in other people's blogs. This will show your appreciation and will keep the comments coming and will even encourage others to comment more!
Have a "Cutest Pet" contest: A great way to get your blog on fire is to have a competition. People will probably over and again check out your blog to see who the winner is if you hold a contest. You can even have a small prize, maybe a gift card or something. It's just a really neat idea.
These are just a few ideas to get your blog going and burning. Another good idea is to have polls and surveys. Good luck on getting your blog 911 hot! Also, please excuse my spelling, my poor little spell checker is broken. *tear*
great blog for beginners and old fogies alike. I would like to add to the music option: if you must have it, have an option for readers to TURN IT ON if they want, DO NOT MAKE THEM TURN IT OFF.
if you have a super long post, consider breaking it up into smaller posts, to be continued the next day...and the next...make it a series, rather than one huge novella.
