Three Cheers For Luciano Pavarotti
Three Cheers For Luciano Pavarotti First off, despite the post title this is not a review of the documentary Luciano Pavarotti about the life of the famous singer.
Many may not realize there is a new film about the man that has been released. And that's okay. I think most will know his name. Away from his typical stage, the movie shares many sides to its subject. Some I knew. Others I did not. Opera is likely less of a draw than movie-going(especially a documentary) so by tackling a subject that seems to cover a movie/documentary about opera is a bit risky.
I am not an expert. Definitely not of opera. And as far as my movie experience is concerned; it's essentially as an armchair observer. But I do enjoy a good story. Hearing it. First-hand. From others. And after the fact as Mr. Pavarotti died(hopefully this is not a spoiler alert moment) in 2007 and this Ron Howard-directed documentary is a briskly paced film that includes some new things to me. Some good interviews with him. With others about him. His work. His play. His passions. His philanthropy. And how they blended together.
I did enjoy this movie-going experience far more than I originally imagined. Enough opera but not so much that it overwhelmed me. Maybe just the right amount. What more can I say? If this was a movie review I could go on and on and on. You know kinda like an opera if you're not a full-fledged fan. For me, I enjoyed the movie. And that's about it. Bravo.
