Wenatchee Summer Fun: Applesox Baseball

"Time and good friends are two things that become more valuable the older you get."

Wenatchee is chock full of choices for fun things to do. This year I decided to do something I've never done before by buying 2 season passes to the Wenatchee AppleSox baseball games. I've been to a number of games in the past but have never purchased season tickets.

Here is my friend Shirley with the Applesox mascot, Coyote. Coyote is a very personable mascot and has a lot of fun entertaining and interacting with the crowd.

The Applesox is a collegiate summer baseball team, established in 2000 in Wenatchee. The Applesox play in the North Division of the 12-team West Coast League with teams from Oregon, Washington, and
British Columbia.  Home games are played at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium on the campus of Wenatchee Valley College. These summer baseball teams are designed to develop the skills of college eligible players, with many players having major league aspirations.

Here are my long time friends, Sue and Mark. I specifically requested my seats to be next to theirs.

There are 4 main things I love about the location of our seats:

1) They are in the front row on the 3rd base side, near the home team dugout.
2) The location protects us from the early summer wind.
3) The location is shaded from the hot summer evening sun.
4) The location is near the concessions stand.  What's a game without a hotdog and beer?

The Applesox are celebrating their 20th season, with 6 league championships during the first 19 years. The season runs from early June through mid-August, with 32 home games.

Besides spending more time with friends, it's been fun to run into other people I know that I don't see often.

The Applesox games are a wonderful opportunity for affordable summer-long entertainment in Wenatchee.

Good morning, Carol... what a great way to enjoy a summer day with friends... and after 20 years it would seem many of your area residents agree!

Good morning Carol. Sounds good to me. Nothing like a baseball game, a hot dog and a beer. Maybe two beers. Enjoy your day

Hi James Dray

At my age I'm not so sure there will be many more firsts but there are lots of things I'd like to do again!

Hi Nina Hollander
Yes, they get a pretty good crowd. The crowd on fireworks night was insane.

Hi Wayne Martin
They serve pretty generous pours so I can usually make one beer last most of the game if I get it in about the 3rd inning.

I don't know as much about baseball as I should.  I do remember once that a guy friend of mine took me to San Francisco to watch the Giants play the New York Yankes.  He sounded excited that he had gotten us tickets in the Visitor Dugout.  I went to the game thinking I was going to sit with the boys and Billy Martin on the benches down there.  Boy was I disappointed!

Oh how fun, Carol! We have a team locally and the field is in our Uptown area - the 'scenery' is fabulous and the games are so much fun too. I had forgotten how fun it was going to a baseball game until our team moved to the Uptown area and we started going when we can. Looks like you guys had a wonderful time - another off of the bucket list, huh?!!

Hi Brian England
When you retire you'll find out there isn't enough time to do all the things you want to. And, you'll wonder how you ever had time to work.

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD
I've lived in Wenatchee so long I always see people I know. I ran into someone the other night I hadn't seen for nearly 2 years. We used to spend a lot of time together but she got remarried, has teenage kids, working, blah, blah, blah and we just never seemed to get together. We ended up sitting together the rest of the game. It was so great to catch up.

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886
I've done a lot of posts about all the great things about and around Wenatchee but have never written about the Applesox so thought this was a good time to do so.  It's been a fun change for my summer.  No home games til this Saturday, though. Wish there were some games tonight and tomorrow. It's a little weird hanging out at home with no furniture.  LOL

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat
Gosh, that would have been fun to hangout IN the dugout wouldn't it?  I do know a lot about baseball because I played it a lot as a kid and also a women'ts fastpitch softball league after I moved to Wenatchee in the early 70's.

Hi Debe Maxwell, CRS
Yes, it's a lot of fun and the field is very close to my house.  Only takes me about 5 minutes to get to the park.
