- 180 – Twelve Christian inhabitants of Scillium in North Africa are executed for their faith and refusal to renounce Jesus Christ. This is reportedly the earliest record of Christianity (and martyrdom for Christian beliefs) in Africa.
- 1429 – After a successful campaign by the prophet and “Maid of Orleans” aka Joan of Arc, Charles VII of France is crowned the King of France in the Reims Cathedral.
- 1867 – Harvard School of Dental Medicine is established in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the first dental school connected with a university in the U.S.
- 1955 – Happy 69th Birthday to Disneyland! The famous theme park is dedicated and opened by founder Walt Disney in Anaheim, California.
- 1962 – The "Small Boy" test shot known as Little Feller I becomes the last atmospheric test detonation of Nuclear weapons testing at the Nevada National Security Site.
- 1998 – A diplomatic conference adopts the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, establishing a permanent international court to prosecute individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.
