Cvent's Top 50 Meeting & Event Cities Report Ranks Charlotte, NC #28 in 2019

For the 7th consecutive year, Charlotte, North Carolina has been ranked in the Top 50 Meeting Destination Cities in the nation by Cvent. This year, Charlotte moved up to a #28 ranking from #30 in 2018 and from a #31 ranking in 2017. As a top meeting destination city, Charlotte offers 166 meeting hotels and 27,197 sleeping rooms. 5,600 hotel rooms are within one mile of Charlotte's Convention Center. By the end of 2020, Charlotte is expected to add an additional 7,600 hotel rooms.

Charlotte A Top 30 Meeting Destination City

What makes Charlotte an increasingly top destination for meetings, conventions, and trade shows:

  • Charlotte's 550,000+ square foot Convention Center, conveniently located in Charlotte's City Center,  is adding another 50,000 square feet of meeting spaces in 2019. The Queen City has over 1.3 million square feet of meeting space, in general.

  • Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, one of the nation's biggest hubs and one of its 10 busiest airports with some 700 daily flights, provides quick an easy access to Charlotte's City Center. 60% of the country is within a two-hour flight of Charlotte  and most destinations on the East Coast are within a day's drive or ride on Amtrak.  Center City Charlotte and the Charlotte Convention Center are just 7 miles from the airport.

  • Easy access to diverse attractions and activities. Theatres, museums, sports stadiums, parks, restaurants, shopping are within easy walking distance in City Center or easily reachable by a quick cab ride.

  • Great night life.

  • At an average hotel room rate of $178 and an average daily meal cost of $42, Charlotte is very much an affordable city to visit compared with many other major US cities.

As Cvent put it: "From its Olympic-level whitewater rafting to its NASCAR heritage, award-winning theme park, and mile upon mile of beautiful scenery, the Queen City is an explorer's paradise. It's a haven of charming eateries and fine-dining establishments, churning out everything from signature down-home comfort food to international delights. It's a craft beer mainstay and a booming metropolis for big business. And with Southern grace and metropolitan style, it plays host to a vibrant arts and music scene, renowned museums that tout its intriguing history, and a professional sports stronghold that spans NFL football to NASCAR. Charlotte is what's now and what's next."

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... when we moved to Charlotte 21 years ago this would not even have been on the radar here... how things have changed. Of course, our Uptown was not as developed then and we had a fraction of the hotels we have now. We attracted the Democrat National Convention some years back and now we will be hosting the Republican National Convention next year.

Hello Nina - I also haven't visited Charlotte yet and my only trips to North Carolina was in a previous career for a business trip so I understand the importance of being named a a top meeting destination.  Good for Charlotte.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 hi Sheila and Larry... toursim wasn't a big item on Charlotte's agenda two decades ago... now it's a whole other story! And with our airport, we are a major gateway to many destinations in the southeast.

Michael Jacobs hi Michael... I made my first business trip to Charlotte in 1974. Uptown had three bank buildings, one little hotel and a bunch of parking lots! Things have really changed here in the past two decades and tourism and conventions and trade shows bring a big boost to our economy these days.

Nina - my first trip to NC was in the 1980s to High Point. Like many cities so much has changed.

Roy Kelley hi Roy... our Chamber likes to say "Charlotte's Got A Lot." And it's true. But Cvent's "Charlotte is what's now and what's next" slogan is spot on, as well. This is a happening city!

Brian England hi Brian... I think you will be pleasantly surprised by Charlotte. Our youngest grandson, who is now 23, came for a visit earlier this year and he fell in love with the city.... millennials are flocking here.

Morning Nina.

28th out of all the places in the U.S., not bad, not bad at all.

James Dray good morning, James... considering that we compete with cities like Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Austin, Dallas, DC, Boston, San Francisco, etc... 28th place is indeed not bad for a town like Charlotte which wasn't even on the map for this kind of business 20 years ago.
