Wordless Wednesday...They Grow Up So Quickly

The baby bluebirds left the nest about 10 days ago and we’ve spotted a few at the feeder and in the trees around the yard.

It’s hard to believe that these little baby birds fit in the birdbox that we have!  We’ve learned that mom and dad will continue to feed the babies for possibly the next 30 days. They come to our feeder and chow down on mealworms then fly off to the various trees where the babies live.

I’ve read that the babies don’t return to the nest but I feel a little sad thinking they’re out there on their own.

But like our children, we have to let them spread their wings and fly.

Kathy I don't know if they come back or not. It sure seems like the babies come back and build their nests where they were born. Maybe I'm imagining that but it sure seems like it to us.

Hi Nina Hollander we are having so much fun trying to turn the backyard into a sanctuary for birds.

Sharon Lee we're wondering if some of the other birds who considered a nest in our backyard but were run off by the bluebirds might consider coming back.

Wayne Martin we're trying!!! We can't wait for a little cooler weather so we can sit outside.

Barbara Todaro we were concerned about a big hawk that was flying around today. The birds stayed away from our yard.

Thank you Ron and Alexandra Seigel Larry and I are both suckers for animals. Who's heard of buying a small fridge just to hold live mealworms!

That’s the story of life. My wife was very sad when our children moved out to go to college. I reassured her that that is the way that life has always been that we prepare our young to leave the nest and meet the world well prepared Kathy Streib
