Here are several reasons for the declining Tiger populations
- Poaching and illicit trade. For traditional Chinese medicines, tiger body parts. In the illicit wildlife trades they keep high costs.
- Habitat Loss. Loss of habitat due to forest clearing for agriculture and industry has resulted in an estimated loss of about 93% of the tigers' natural habitats.
- Climate Change. With the ascent of sea level because of climate change lead to crash of Sundarbans one of the habitats of Royal Bengal Tigers.
-
Disease and Lack of Genetic Diversity. Experts have recorded declining genetic diversity. For example, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (RTR) says that tiger populace in the park demonstrated lost genetic diversity throughout the years. While some is attributed to disease; the lack of genetic diversity itself is a risk factor for decimation of tiger populations due to disease.
- Lack of funds for tiger conservation.
