Raising the Bar of Realtor Safety.

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Hamm Homes

We had a incident the other week in our area at a open house where a guy came in and had bear spray and a knive and made a move on the Realtor.  Lucky she had a gun and fired it one and he ran out.  The police caught him this past week.

September is coming and it is safety month for Realtors but to be real , we need to practice safety all the time.  Sometimes it is wise to do a open house with a lender or a second agent to be safe.

Make sure you are always close to your phone and have something you can use such as a pen or know from self defense at all time.

And then people "wonder" when I say I don't do open houses because of security concerns! Fortunately, I've yet to have a client who wanted one. But at the end of the day, we are sitting ducks when in an open house letting strangers in.

It's so unfortunate that this has become a priority in our industry.

That is really scary, I am glad she is safe and that he was caught.  It is pretty sad that we have to have self-defense when holding an open house.

Will- I too am glad that the agent is safe. It seems I'm reading of more and more agents holding Open Houses with at least 2 agents.
