Glimpses of San Francisco - it's about the water

By

Sitting at the tip of a peninsula, San Francisco is surrounded on three sides by water.

At the west edge is the Pacific Ocean stretching from the Cliff House south to Fort Funston. Ocean Beach with it's miles of sandy beach is here to enjoy whether you are a surfer, a running, a dog walker or simply want some solitude to enjoy listening to the waves. Here a girl and her dog celebrate New Year's Day at the beach

At the northern tip of The City, you'll find more beaches, hiking trails with incredible water vistas and then---the Golden Gate Bridge. Here Elisa Uribe Realtor #01427070 joins me for a hike along the Lands' End trail, and then a glimpse of Baker Beach on an unusually hot summer Sunday.

trail and Baker Beach, SFRounding the tip and under the Golden Gate Bridge is the Bay, with Crissy Field, the Marina, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Embarcadero. This is the waterfront most people know, whether from a stroll along the Embarcadero, a visit to the Exploratorium, a boat to Alcatraz or other destinations.

We did have fun that day, Elisa Uribe Realtor #01427070 - I'd love another City hike--or an Oakland hike. I'll text you; perhaps early September?

Hi Lottie Kendall - I loved each and every photograph. The last time I was in SF was the late 70s. I did go to Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz and had a wonderful time. Some things stay the same; other things are different. The photo of the little girl in the water and her dog and the two dogs running on the beach were precious! Waterfront, on the beach, or in the water, it doesn't get any better than that in beautiful SF. I still consider "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" as one of the great songs of all times.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - I often find myself humming "where little cable cars, climb half way to the stars" when I see the cable cars ascending one of the hills! The girl in the water is my granddaughter a handful of years ago, and the Golden Retriever is Rachael's dog. (He often shows up in my photos!)

Lottie Kendall - Awe, your granddaughter is beautiful! Even though there is a leash between her and the Golden Retriever, it is obvious to me, there is a very strong bond when that photograph was taken. I love that they were both doing their own thing looking inside the water. Plus the color hair is quite similar too. Goldies make the best family pets! And of course, Granddaughters make the best family additions too!

By the way, as I'm commenting I'm listening to Tony Bennett singing in the background. Soft music. Meaningful lyrics. And great family photos and/or memories are the perfect combination to start any day!

Hello Lottoe Kendall,  The warm weather brings people out to play in the water and you have some great shots here of them.

Hi Will Hamm - that picture of Baker Beach is quite unusual. It's a popular beach, but rarely is as crowded as in the picture. Northern California beaches are wonderful for the peace and quiet they bring.

Lottie Kendall - That's a nice dedication to a man/entertainer who shifted all eyes on San Fransico with that beautiful song! This is the first time I saw the statue! I'm sure many people have been photographed in front of it.

No, Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - no cruise for me, not while my knees hold out! I thought the large and small boats in the picture made a great contrast.

I've never been to San Francisco. I've not been to CA at all. Hopefully a nice long visit at some point.

California is a long way from NH, Sharon Tara  but worth a visit. Mountains (think Yosemite and Lake Tahoe), ocean beaches (warm swimming beaches in southern California, rugged beautiful beaches in northern California) cities (Los Angeles and San Francisco are two), many wine areas, redwood trees, classic drives (like Highway 1 along the Big Sur coast) -- something for everyone.

Love the post Lottie Kendall .  Lots of familiar spots from my many trips to The City.  I may be there again this weekend. We are heading to Half Moon Bay on Sunday to get out of the heat for the day.  Who knows where we will end up after luch at Duarte's in Pescadero.  I'm sure that will inspire a post or two.

Duarte's is always a great spot to be, Jim Patton - do you remember our short hike in the Presidio after one of our Active Rain meet ups? I was glad to have had the chance to meet you in person.

Yes I do remember that Lottie.  It was nice to meet you too.  Always nice to have a local for a tour guide too.

Hi Lottie:

I really enjoyed this beautiful post! There are so many wonderful views of water in SFO, and from so many different vantage points. One of my favorite places to visit and take photos...too bad it's been a few years!
