Saturday Smiles: Eye Popping Colors @ Santa Barbara Farmers Market!

By

We are always discovering new colors among vegetables we are used to seeing. Pictured above is dark red okra mixed with green. The dark red/sometimes purple means the plant has more antioxidants, and is usually an heirloom variety.

Chinese long beans have the burgundy version.

Yellow heirloom tomatoes have less acid and are sweeter than the red variety.

Japanese tomatoes are perfectly round, sweet and pinkish red.

The color of these beautiful beets is an iridescent burgundy color.

Peppers of all types and shapes continue to show up at various stands.

Last but not least are these bright purple Japanese eggplants, that cook quickly and are sweet compared to the globe eggplant variety.

Wishing you all an abundance of Saturday Smiles....

Lots of color this morning.  I have never seen eggplant in that shape.  Such a tantalizing array of fresh produce. Love it. Enjoy your day.

Hi Alexandra and Ron,

I don't know why I am so reluctant to try the yellow tomatoes - I will try them eventually.  Beautiful colors!

Oh yum. We finally had a few tomatoes out of the garden last week. What a difference in taste from the ones at the grocery store.

You always share such beautiful bounty from the Farmers Market - how can anyone resist.

We saw bunches of heirloom carrots at our Farmers Market recently - no photo - an arrant of purple, yellow and orange that was stunning.

The heirloom tomatoes are spectacular looking Alexandra.  And, although I'm not a fan of okra, they are certainly pretty to look at.

Morning Alexandra.

I do like okra, which reminds me, I'll be off to the local market this morning in search of tomatoes.

All of that are regular in our meals but not this good looking. I miss the old roadside stands the farmers used to have where we could get fresh.

Oh my! I wouldn't hesitate to pick up any one of those items, Alexandra. The okra look inviting - I did not get enough of that this summer. I'm missing my farmers market right now!
