2,000 Pound Steer Rescued in Montgomery County, Maryland

Montgomery County rescue crews freed a 2,000-pound steer on Monday after it got stuck in a muddy ravine in Boyds.

At about 11:15 a.m., officials were called to Star Gazing Farm on Whites Store Road for the report of a trapped animal. The steer, county fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said, was stuck in the muddy ravine for nearly three hours. The temperature outside, he added, felt like 101 degrees.

Eventually, crews freed the steer. Piringer said the animal did not appear to be injured. Alessia Grunberger, Patch Staff

Roy,

I had no idea that the steer weighed 2000 pounds.  That must have been quite an endeavor to rescue this creature.  I am happy they diid.  A

Hey Roy - success stories happen each day and these are always great to hear/read/see.  It's becoming more difficult to find these type of community interest stories...that's a shame in my opinion.

That had to be quite the feat to achieve with "uncooperative" weight .

I am glad that they were able to rescue the steer, I never like to see anything or anyone in a dangerous situation.

Roy, that is a beautiful story.  It is so nice to hear a pleasant story in the midst of our daily heavy news. Makes a person feel free and happy inside. I am sure the steer was relieved and grateful for the help.

Poor thing.  How lucky somebody noticed and helped the creature out of the mud.

Dear Roy,

Sounds like quite the rescue. Where did that weight estimate come from? The animal I see does not look like it could weigh even close to 2,000 pounds.
