We get emails almost daily with SEO questions from Active Rain Members. I try to get back to all of you but sometimes there are just too many questions in a week to answer them individually.
We are going to address one of those emails in this post because this question is a very common one. I will point out some changes that can be made and I would like you to comment with suggestions to help Vickie McCartney with her question.
This is a copy of Vickie's email. She gave me her permission to post her email:
Well, that all depends on what keywords she is using. The first question that I would ask is,
Has Vickie done her keyword research or is she just guessing at the keywords? You should always do your keyword research first before you choose your keywords.
Now when I do a keyword search for the keywords, 'Owensboro Kentucky real estate' there are only 31 searches a month for those words and there are over 3,100 websites just on Google with those words being used as keywords. Not a very promising income generator!
I asked Vickie what search words she was checking to see where she placed on google with and she was checking on these terms, ' Owensboro,KY real estate or Homes for sale in Owensboro,KY. But what good are these search terms if not enough people are searching for them? You still would need to own these keywords but they should be spelled without the comma in between the words. Google bots see the comma as seperating key words.
Now when I search for the keywords here is what comes up:
The next thing that I notice is that Vickie has only written 80 posts. That sounds like a lot but it is not. Google probably does not see her as relevant enough to top the competition. Upon further research on her blog posts I noticed right away that she is all over the place with her blogging. It looks like there is no plan. You must have a plan. Out of those 80 posts there are a lot of posts written for AR members and remember those are good to gain a readership but they must be on top of your 3 to 5 you write each week for your keywords.
- You must be writing at least 3 to 5 posts with your keywords per week. So if you are writing members only posts, those don't count!
- Your blogging needs to be consistant.
- You need to practice good SEO skills such as internal linking and attracting inbound links.
- Making sure your titles have your keywords is a must and so is anchor text.
With patience, a good strategic blogging plan like the one I have implemented with Fred Carver and with Debe Maxwell will get you right on top of Google, get your phone to ring and increase your income.
