Mukwonago is a village in Wisconsin, located mostly within the Town of Mukwonago. It is located 30 miles southwest Milwaukee.

This thriving Lake Country village has a rich Native American history that dates all the way back to the early 1700s.

The village was originally a Native American village and the tribal seat of the Bear Clan of the Potawatomi Indians. The village’s name came from the word “mequanego” which means bear’s den. The name changed to Mukwonago in 1844. Many of the streets and roads in the community are named after the founders of the village.
