Oh no!!!! The sky is falling the sky is falling..... That is the way I felt two months ago when the Doctor called and said "well you need to get in here, your sugar is up and you now have type 2 diabetes". Oh no I thought , I'm BRANDED for life. But wait it gets worse, no more ce cream or sugar or treats (no I am not a dog) I just happen to call all things bad for me treats... It took a few days to come to grips with this animal but I did and so can you. I weighed 247+ pounds on any given day, my blood pressure was high (on medication) well no need to go on I was a mess. NOW, eight weeks later 32 pouds later I am singing the praises of God given self-control. God gives us a mind and He expects us to use it. For many people diabetes is preventable /controllable. I cut out potatoes, white bread, sugar and as many starches as possible and with no exersize lost the weight and brought ALL of my numbers down Cholesteraol 154, A1C 6.2 BP 117/74 etc. ANd I am pushing 60 pretty hard.

IF you are "undertall" take a look at your diet not that dirty four letter word DIET. I mean the wonderful word that describes what you are eating, diet. Make healthy choices for you and your loved ones for heavens sake.

Blessings

Good for you, Michael. It takes a lot of self control to cut out those treats! Congratulations on your weight loss.

Michael!

Good for you! 8 weeks, and 32 pounds.  Wow!

Diabetes runs in my family, even though it has nothing to do with weight. Argh!  I have not been diagnosed, but do test myself.  (I hate surprises!)

I hope things are well in Parkersburg.  (I was born in Fairmont.)

Best wishes and good health!

I know what you are going through because I have the pregnancy diabetes so it should go away when the baby comes out...down to less than 4 weeks now and going to celebrate with a big bowl of ice cream.  The good news is because I too am on  a diet because of it have actually lost about 2 lbs over the past 4 weeks even though I am getting bigger.

I appreciate you kind words folks. It is a blessing to have a place to sjare life and it's challenges. Naoma, I pray that the delivery will be smooth and uneventful and that your sugar drops swiftly. I would likew to think that the weight loss aided in the lower numbers, it would give me more incemtive to stay low on weight.

Hi Michael, sorry about the diabetes, but that is great about the weight loss and improvements.

Hopefully before long, you will find some "new" food/things that come become snacks that you really enjoy.....Me being a postive sort of person, I really think that you need to turn "treats" into a good word.  The bad things need a negative word associated with them...."junk" maybe???

Michael, I too was diagnosed with type II about 5 months ago. Unfortunately, it hasn't been as easy for me to get some weight off, but I have lost about 19 lbs, and still working on it. You sound like you are taking the bull by the horns, which is wonderful. You go. Keep up the good work.

Great for you , Michael (there seems to be a theme today in comment on posts by someone named Michael). I am bookmarking this for inspiration. Even though I am at the perfect weight (for someone 6'7", I am only 5'11"). Thanks for sharing.

Good for you .  You have a second chance to get in shape and get i t under control.  You are doing great from the sounds of it.

I am not overweight I'm undertall, I hear you Mike, I too used that one for a long time, I believe iot was "Garfield" that came up with that one. Second chances are great! We only get one chance to make a good first impression but we do get do-overs in life sometimes. I'm sure trying. Two weeks later kinda in a holding pattern looking to start some more aggressive exersize to shed another 15 pounds. Kevin, In think 19 pounds is pretty good. I had a real struggle when it came to quitting smoking until I realized that it was a matter of committment and until I realized that my health was truly at risk I just pretended to try. I found the same thing to be true with the "diet change" It is tough but when you are three weeks in, it seems to become less challenging. Hang in there. Thanks for stopping by and being an encouragement.

Michael, WTG with the weight loss, keep it going now, its easier not to diet and how quickly it returns (unlike my hair, grin)

Thanks for the inspirational post!  Hang in there.  You didn't mention exercise. It's so easy in this "jump through the hoop" business of ours, to not find quality time for exercise.   The "E" word.

I also have been hearing some poor health reports and YESTERDAY decided that TODAY is the first day of me,  incorporating exercise in my day for at least 15 mins EVERY DAY!

Just DO it!

Doreen, Duane, Thanks for stopping by. Yes, finding time to exersize is tough but a must. I have plateaued for now but am beginning to exersize. Should begin to loose again soon.

Thanks Steve, Quite an undertaking but my BMI is down from 32 to 29. Not bad if I do say so myself.
