Yesterday, we took a ride to Island View Nursery in Carpinteria.  It is one of the best places to find interesting plants of all types and in large quantities. The building where many of the plants are displayed is over 20,000 square feet.  Outside are long tables full of succulents. Beyond the tables are rows of trees, greenhouses, and lots of outdoor plants of all types.

As always I had not intention of buying another one for our yard.  I just could not resist the one pictured above!  This is a variety of one called "black rose", or swartzkop, of which I have several.  Usually they are dark burgundy unlike this one.

Happy Friday, and we wish you all a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!

Now that is a plant I wouldn't have been able to pass up in my gardening days either. If I had a place to put it now I would get it now. Very pretty. Never seen one that color.

Sharon Lee I see you understand why I could not pass it us.  I am in the process of doing summer clean up, and transplanting.  One of our specimen succulents became too big to share in the pot is lived in.  It now has a new pot, and will be replace with this beauty.  A

At first glance, those succulents resembled pine cones!

I can't pass them up either. My favorite big box grocery store had succulents (the generic name is hen & chicks" on clearance and I scooped up several to use at a current listing.
