You never know what shocking things will happen in Real Estate?

I had a crazy thing happen while working Friday. I was Listing a new 2 family home on the west side of the Manchester NH area. A car pulls up, stops in the middle of the road and an older woman gets out asking for help. She was lost. Really lost. I found out later, that she wandered away from her nursing home in Concord NH. About 25 miles North.

She still thought she was in Concord. When told she was in Manchester She did not know how to get home. She had no phone. After getting the car out of the road and getting her calm and comfortable is when we learned she was from a nursing home. Talking to her she remembered the name and we Googled it, got the number and called. We did not get the welcoming reception we should have when calling, they were kind of mean and zero help.

She had said she did not have any family, but after being more comfortable she remembered more. A simple search of names got the number of family about 45 minutes away. She was able to sit safely and they came to pick her up. I didn't get to to talk to them.

There was so many what if's and happy she turned on the street when we walked outside to get some pictures of the home. 30 seconds either way and we may never have crossed paths. Also happy my daughter was there who was a calming force on both of us not to panic. Also happy my seller was understanding and helped. As the work day comes to end inputting the last of data on my new listings, i just wanted to share the story as it was as scary as it was exciting to have a happy ending.

Good morning, Scott - this story could have had some serious consequences had you and your daughter not been on scene at the that exact timing.  Prompt attention to the matters at hand and knowing what is needed are also hallmarks of a good person as well as a good real estate broker.  It's nice when they occur in the same person.

Michael Jacobs is exactly right - you really did save the day for that lady - can't believe the nursing home was not more concerned and caring. I hope her family considers helping her find a new place to live

That is really quite a story, Scott. And you were certainly the Good Samaritan. I'm shocked at the attitude of the nursing home... in her family's shoes I'd be finding another one.

I'm grateful you were able to help her. If I was a family member, the nursing home would be getting an earful. Those are not inexpensive facilities. Makes my heart hurt when I hear these stories.

So glad there was a happy ending to this unique situation Scott. Yes, a few minutes longer and your paths may have never met. Awful that the nursing home was not so accommodating!

A number of years ago, I had a buyer call me after a former owner showed up wanting to know why they were living in her home and when could they move out? The former owner (quite elderly) had managed to take a cab from her senior living facility to the property. The new owners were able to obtain enough information to learn where she was currently living and gave her a ride home. Just never know who's gonna show up.

I'm glad you were there to assist her, Scott!  Are you saying this lady was in a nursing home, but also had a car she was driving?  That's frightening!

Hi Scott,
The Lord works in mysterious ways and He was with that woman on that day when she sent her to where you were at just the right moment!!! So glad this story had a happy ending.   It sounds like her family needs to move her to a different facility, though... one with more compassion.

Scott, that was just one of the many situations that was meant to be for you, like the many other "meant to be situations" that with your help turned positive. 🏆
