What song impacted you the most and where were you?

I don't have a very good memory at all and forget names and important dates very easily. This is why this amazes me. I remember where I was, what day of the week it was, and what time it was when I heard this song. It was 1974 on a Satuday night and it was around 6:30 p.m. when I heard this song. I don't know why it impacted me the way it did but it did. When the song came on I parked my car in front of my friends home where I was headed and waited for the song to end. After the song ended I just sat there in silence.

George - I remember this song, but don't remember the first time I heard it. For some odd reason I recall the the big hit by Donny Osmond, Puppy Love when I was kid and sitting on my front door steps back east as a kid. I guess my age and being a chic was, I am sure the target market they were trying to reach. I remember that song very well that day.

I don't remember it but it's a good one, thanks. I wouldn't know where to start in sharing my own memories, there have been so many touching songs over the years.

George - this is a classic, to be sure. And a beautiful song, to boot!

My all time favorite is Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me by Mel Carter. The first time I heard it I was at the skating rink and it was 11 PM. It was the last skate of the night and each skater was expected to pick a partner to skate with while the lights were dimmed and the disco ball flickered. (That was the mid 60s!)

I chose a sandy blonde haired boy that later that summer broke his arm while diving into a pool while singing Henry the VIII (Herman's Hermits) to me.

Funny the things we can remember and the things we forget. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

I have to sign off now. I have to go color my hair again! The gray hair just grew an extra inch while taking this stroll! LOL

George, This kind of stuff makes me feel so old sometimes. Since most of my life has been spent in the music business the first song that changed me is still of importance as it was the driving force for over 5 decades of work and life. It was 1956, I was listening in my bunk bed to my new transistor radio and heard The 5 Satins " In the still of the night ". For some reason this song sent me to a whole new place in time. To this day I listen to it with the same feeling. There have been many instances in my life when a certain song fit the moment and remain apart of me.

George, it is nice you are a Carly Simon fan. I am too. That's a great song. Songs do trigger past memories. I remember dancing with a girlfriend after college at an apartment party at the clubhouse. The song was Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue, and when the song was over I let her go and she passed out. Too much to drink . One of a million stories I could tell you.

We both started crying for different reasons. I was planning my wedding and the song made me think of how wonderful my father was, it made her think how much she wished she had a good dad. I still tear up everytime I hear the song and now its for two reasons: the great dad I have and the chance I now have to see my husband be a great dad to our daughter.

I do love that song. It's hard to think of favorites but when one comes on you reach over and turn up the volumn. That's what I do when "Help me make it through the night" comes on.

George, I hope I am posting this video correctly.....I haven't ever posted one in a comment before, so I hope it works! I remember hearing this song the summer of 1987. It wasn't the first time I'd heard this song, but this time it just made an impact. I was at the stop light at Franklin & Cole, and it was a warm summer afternoon. I had the windows open, and there was a slight breeze blowing. That song was made for that moment in time, and hearing it always takes me back to that summer. Perfumes are that way for me too. If I smell certain perfumes that I've worn in the past, it takes me back to a certain time. Tatiana by Diane VonFurstenberg was the fragrance I was wearing about the same time as this song. When ever I smell that I remember getting dressed up with my sisters to go to the Church dances on Friday nights! If I could post a scratch n sniff here I would! ; )

That song came out in like 72 (maybe 73). I remember the 45 I had. It was on Atlantic Records....that song was Song of The Year at the Grammy awards...I played that song over and over one morning. This guy who worked for my parents came in and listed to it with me...over and over....it was Summertime....AM hours....sunny day.....that same song by Roberta Flack (Killing Me Softly)......Great song!

The Summer of 1974 was a great season for tunes...Rikki Don't Lose That Number (Steely Dan)......Sundown (Gordon Lightfoot)...Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Elton John)......reminds me of camping trips and spending days at pools and lakes. One fun summer!

Hi George, This is a good one.....it's kind of weird. I always remember things like 9/11, when Lady Die died, the shooting of President Reagan, and other memorable events..but picking a "song in time" is tough. Based on what I know we have the same tastes though!

George, Isn't it amazing how songs are burned into our memories? I have two songs I will never forget, when and where I heard them. One is funny..."afternoon delight" by the Starland band. "Gonna find my baby gonna hold her tight gonna grab some afternoon delight". Do you remember that? I remember it like it was yesterday. I was with my boyfriend, Steve Moore, 17 years old, 1976. We were in his flame yellow 1960's Firebird, PARKING....kissing like bandits when I heard that song. How funny is that???? He was my first love, and we really thought we were doing something by making out. LOL....so funny! We were both very innocent and would have NEVER gone further than a good "make out" session. Oh to be young again.

My other song is so sad. My dad was dying, from Pancreatic cancer. It was very fast and very painful. He lived in Florida, I lived in Kansas City. I would fly back and forth each week, to be with him. I'll never forget when the Doctor called me and told me I needed to come back. (I had just flown back home that day). It was 3:00 am. I got in my car, drove to the airport and heard the new Whitney Houston song, I will always love you. EVERY time I would get in a car while he was on his death bed, I heard that song. It still makes me cry when I hear it, because I remember it so vividly, his pain, my pain, and watching him die. Parts of me love this song because the wording couldn't be any better. Part of me hates it, because it hurts. Here it is:

Music is a huge part of my life. My father was a disc jockey and entertainment writer and my mother was a singer. I'm also known as the "Singing" Realtor around here in Pasadena, California. Naturally, I have many, many memories of hearing songs or watching the artists perform them. One song really stands out every summer - and it's from Earth Wind and Fire in 1974. The song was entitled "Keep Your Head to the Sky". So every time I take a dip in the pool each summer I instantly think of that song! Funny I don't think of the song in the winter time!

No problem, George. There's also another song that I'm sure everyone knows...it's "A Hard Days Night" by the Beatles. I'm taken back to when I was a little girl and I went to see them in concert. I got some Beatles dolls, and when I was at home the next day I played with them in the rain - and mud. Hmmmmm....I wonder how much they would have been worth today - if I hadn't ruined them in the mud! G'night!

I think a song that has impacted me most is the song by U2, "With or Without You" U2 is one of my favorite bands. I can't remember where I was the first time I heard it but it is still one of my favorite songs.

I was 16 and driving home from a hair appoinment with my mother sitting next to me. It was not a pleasant drive inside the car, but I can still see the sun shining and feel it's warmth today. The message that flashed through my head was, "Life has bigger plans for me than I have for it." Whenever I am faced with big decisions, I always remember that day and this song - even when I would sometimes rather not remember!
