Trash those number 6 plastic cups in Montgomery County, Maryland

Many of the party cups that usually come in red and blue on the outside and white on the inside are made of polystyrene or number 6 plastic and cannot be recycled in Montgomery County. The plastics that are allowed to be recycled are cups made of #1 or #5.

Morning Roy.

Just curious, why can't they be recycled?  Don't know what # 6 plastic is.

Recycling is good!  I always have more recyclables than I do regular trash, haha.

Hi Roy... there are so many kinds of plastics out there, sometimes it's hard to remember what is recyclable and what's not.

I just came from our local AM/PM.  It is hot in Sacramento today, and I wanted a Mocha Frostachino.  I'm looking at my cup, and it's not red or blue.  But, I did grab a straw however!

In our area, you may recycle items up to number 5 in the recycle logo. Plastic bags also go into the trash rather than the recycle bin.
