Crazy about island properties? Visit "The Official Private Islands Blog"

Blogger Mark John Amherst (who refers to himself as "islomaniac") has created a blog designed for people who dream of owning a private island retreat.

Apostle Islands of Lake Superior

Amherst's "Official Private Islands Blog" features articles about celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Johnny Depp (Depp and his wife own an island in the Bahamas and recently lent it to Lindsay). There's also an interview with private island expert Farhad Vladi, of Vladi Private Islands in Hamburg, Germany (Vladi has sold over 1500 private islands worldwide during his career as a real estate broker).

The site includes dozens of links on island travel, island vacations, global/political considerations involved in island ownership and much more.

As a broker who sells island properties myself, I'm intrigued by sites like this one.

If your niche is the luxury market, I'd point out that island properties are considered among the most unique and upscale luxury purchase items available. This is a good place to pick up on what the upscale consumer is seeking.

Not all real estate answers can be found on Google.

Now that's a creative idea...will have to check it out!

Eric, what a fun site! I'll have to share it with my son, he's been aspiring to own his own island since about the age of 7 :-)

Cool site, Eric. Thanks for sharing. We had a home on an island at Cape Cod before we move west - ther is something special about being on an island (although we did not OWN an island I can envision doing so).

I have two blogs on ActiveRain. My two companies are separated by 220 miles. One is in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul metro area and we deal in primary homes. The other is our Madeline Island office in Lake Superior (northwest Wisconsin) and our market there is mostly second home owners.

I needed two blogs to deal with two very different markets, hence the "twin"..
