Green-Spark, an up and coming San Diego grassroots organization is currently acting as an information clearinghouse for recent fire victims. The not too long ago Southern California was ravaged by wildfires. The fire victims through this group's wonderful efforts can better understand the new building programs that are available and it also provides numerous other beneficial services like education and advice on preferred building materials and other needed resources.
Construction has always had a profound effect on health and the environment. Green-Spark is also helping builders improve the way they use resources such as energy, water and the building materials.
Most of the San Diego fire victims are still in the early stages of design and rebuilding. It is hoped that Green-Spark can help these fire victims understand that while building "green" may cost a bit more, over the long haul, it pays for itself. Rebuilding fire resistant and energy-efficient homes benefits both our respective communities and our environment.
Green-Spark on its website green-spark.org also promotes information on local, state and federal financial incentives available to homeowners that will build "green".
I certainly am glad that is organization exists and applaud their efforts. We need all the help we can get here in San Diego to help these homeowners recover from the tragedy that touched over 1000 homeowners.
