Carpet cleaning companies use several cleaning methods to clean carpets. Each method has its own set of benefits and drawbacks. But how do you know the most effective carpet cleaning method. Here are some of the pros and cons that will help you determine the most appropriate carpet cleaning method for your carpet.

Most Effective Carpet Cleaning Method

This article outlines the main carpet cleaning methods out there that’ll clean up any mess of any size.

Categories of Carpet Cleaning

Carpet cleaning methods are divided into two main categories: dry cleaning and wet cleaning methods. Dry cleaning involves the use of foams or chemical powders applied by special machines with cylinders, pads or counter rotating brushes. Wet cleaning, on the other hand, includes hot water extraction and can include cleaning with an absorbent pad. This method of cleaning is usually good for getting powders and hard to remove things from your carpet.

Wet Cleaning

This process involves pre-conditioning the carpet with a chemical reagent that liquifies oil-based substances as well as soils which may be present in the carpet. Water is heated to near boiling point and pressurized before it’s injected into the carpet. After about 15 minutes, a vacuum is used to extract the solution after shampooing. This cleaning method gets out soiling and tough stains from deep within the carpet but it’s relatively expensive and often takes a long time to dry.

Cleaning with an Absorbent Pad

This cleaning method is commonly used for routine maintenance and is also referred to as bonnet cleaning. However, it can also be used for regular cleaning. The process starts by vacuuming the carpet before spraying a chemical solution with a pump or sprayer. The solution is then given time to set for a suitable reaction or dwell time.

The bonnet or absorbent pad, which resembles a towel is placed on the driving block of a rotary machine and spun over the surface of the carpet at a high speed. This impregnates the carpet fibers with the chemical solution before picking it up when it’s collected the soils.

This cleaning method is fast and simple but leaves chemicals and dirt to accumulate at the bottom of the carpet.

Using an Absorbent Compound to Dry Clean

A powder is mixed with cleaning agents and special solvent is spread generously over the carpet. The powder is then applied into the fibers with machine. The powder absorbs soils from the carpet. It’s then given about 15 minutes to set on the carpet then it’s vacuumed up.

This is a very simple system with fast drying but it’s unable to clean deep down in the carpet.

Dry Foam Method

The carpet is applied with a cleaning agent so that it can help to suspend dirt in the carpet. The cleaning agent is then made into a foam that’s worked into the carpet with a special machine. After a short while, the foam is then extracted with a vacuum.

The cleaning method is fast, inexpensive and simple to apply but unable to clean thoroughly below the surface of the carpet.

Bottom Line

By examining the pros and cons of each carpet cleaning method, you can determine the most effective carpet cleaning method and hack for your carpet. If you’re not sure which method best suits your carpet, consider seeking advice from carpet cleaning professionals before prepping for a carpet cleaning.
