Milestones On My Mind

Milestones On My Mind Although, I can't recall my first visit to Disneyland, I remember my last time there.  Thinking of each event, it's more than a Mickey Mouse Moment but not likely a Milestone.  Maybe it has to do with decades ago memories versus months ago.  Maybe that or maybe something else.  It wasn't unique for me to visit the famed theme park as a Southern California native.   As a child, we lived nearby.  Like moments, milestones matter.  For many reasons and far beyond that famous Anaheim attraction of my childhood.

There are likely countless moments in real life to remind us about time markers of many kinds.  I like this quote from the chief financial officer of Alphabet, the parent of Google, that brought me back to reality.  At least for a moment:

I have seen too many people in my career

think that there is some natural progression to life,

with certain career milestones

preceding whatever you may want in your personal life.

Unfortunately,

life doesn't know how to follow a schedule.

Good morning, Michael... Disney Land was a milestone in my life... I grew up in the 1950's desperate to see it and was a daily watcher of the Mickey Mouse Club after school each day. I finally got to see it when I was 25 years old... so for me it was a memorable milestone. After that I got to visit Disney World in Florida several times, but it was never as memorable as my first visit to Disney in California.

Another interesting post and discussions to follow in the comments. To me, milestones are memories that remain very vidid - some good, some bad.  Generally a lesson of some sort, or just powerful emotion. But your quote about life not following a schedule - so very, very true.

Hi Michael:

It's fun to look back and remember various milestones...whatever they are and whatever they meaan to us. Funny how some memories remain so vivid while others fade.

Michelle Carr Crowe,Altas Just Call...408-252-8900! - it's a great quote, isn't it?

Nina Hollander - I have never been to Disney World(or Florida for that matter) but first time experiences are difficult, if not impossible, to live again.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - I love when comments add to the flavor and spirit of the conversation.  Enhancing it.  Stimulating it.  Furthering it and expanding it.

Michael Jacobs - That quote is quite a wake-up call! When you're in business, life is so much more than annual goals and strategic planning. As you flip through the pages of your mind and think about the milestones you achieved since childhood, it does seem like decades of memories. Suddenly, you reach an age and time has passed and then starts the flooded memories. I don't think it's fair for any of us to stop dreaming and achieving life goals. And when we know, it's not possible, we better be prepared to adjust and keep going.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - numbers achieved is certainly a part of a plan for many but plans/goals are not necessarily meant to stand still.

Perhaps life doesn't know how to follow a schedule, however, each individual has the opportunity to utilize their time wisely and strive for peak performance as every milestone is one step closer to achieving our goals. Time IMO is our most important asset after maintaining our good health.

My head is swimming on this one - I'm very much a 'celebratory' person - when someone hits a milestone, I'm all about making a big deal out of it. Personally, I may think about it but, am typically laser-focused and don't want to spend time on my own milestones.

However, just as your quote indicates, LIFE sometimes gets in the way of those milestones and can certainly be depended upon to wreak havoc on a schedule - especially if you're a schedule-blocker!

As for Disney - I've been many times to World but, never to Land! One of these days....err, years!

Well, you know, you always send me down these rabbit holes, Michael!

They should be called swimming holes instead. And, for the swimming hole du jour, I always feel that I need to don my flippers when visiting your pondering posts...but, I love every minute of it!
