How many times have you gone to a movie with high expectations and then were disappointed to some degree with the production? As much as you may have liked the concept or hoped that the sequel would work or admired the actor(s) or wanted to experience the location, etc. something didn't come together right... You knew exactly what was bothering you and had suggestions even on how to fix it!
If you like movie analogies, please read on because your life is like a movie.
You are the principal actor and living out the script that YOU have written.
Many of us slog onward through a 'system' that we have devised and accepted and hope for the best in the end. If you are pleased with the road on which you travel, then I congratulate you. If you've noticed, maps have routes to different places...
For some of us, we have purposely written our way into a seemingly inevitable routine and unknown ending even. We are so set in our ways we cannot even see the direction in which we are moving. We lose track of time. We accept 'fate'. It is very easy to do.
It doesn't have to be that way. You can change the middle and the ending of your life.
We all have a beginning that is impossible to revise. We have a certain physical and psychological makeup. Our parents and environment had a large impact on what we did. The culture and economic reality of our upbringing determined a certain course over another.
But let's get back into the movies for a moment...
I grew up escaping into Gothic horror movies. Dracula was my favorite. At the time, Hammer Films had Christopher Lee playing the monster and several great movies came out of their studios. I had a difficult time accepting any other actor in this role!
It wasn't until I came to the states (from a foreign land) to attend college that I saw the original black and white version with Bela Lugosi. And then I saw Abbott and Costello mix it up. Later, some very serious and dark versions of the concept emerged with entirely different characters and storylines.
The producers of this long succession of horror flicks had to rewrite the script to some degree as every iteration came out. For many years the same sequence of events, based on Bram Stoker's novel, was the basis of the updated releases. But as things started getting a bit repetitious, scriptwriters either proposed new storylines or rewrote events, characters, location, and even endings.
YOU are the creator! YOU can rewrite your script, your life story, and how things will happen from this moment on.
Your life, as in a movie, has characters (actors), a plot, a location, a plan of action. You have wardrobe and makeup even to consider!
- If your script is not fulfilling your expectations: REVISE IT. Only you can change your script, your story, your life.
- If your supporting CAST is weak, then change them out. Find new personalities that help instead of drag you down.
- If your location has not produced the results you expected: MOVE to a different one that will.
- If the sequence of events you plan are uneven, then EDIT until it is well thought out, doable, and makes sense. Your script is the map -- the sequence of actions and events that must be followed in order to get to your destination. Yes, sometimes the route itself is the trip, the movie.
- You are also the DIRECTOR of your script and the SCREENPLAY. Pay attention to the details, hire those that you may need to execute your message best. Engage other professionals to handle essentials that are critical in the production.
YOU are in charge of your script. YOU must start the rewrite -- major or minor -- in order for your movie to sell well. Is your franchise compelling each time you walk out the door or make a phone call, or interact with a client? Maybe the changes in the script have to be slight in order to stay on your game. Think it out. What can you do to alter your approach or method that will entice, entertain, and fulfill the needs of those whom with you interact day to day?
YOU are the creator! YOU are the STAR of your show!
If you feel you have been TYPECAST, that you have much more potential, that you are eager to try new ROLES, then start now and Rewrite, edit, Rewrite! Here's to the NEW YOU!
