Motivational Monday - Here’s to Chutzpah!
“It’s ALWAYS too early to quit.” - Norman Vincent Peale
On the eve of heading to Denver to spring my husband from his 9-week stint in the hospital, I am reminded of many conversations we have had about how incredibly difficult staying the course will be, was and still is. A sense of ‘this will never end’ and ‘I don’t think I can do this’ are among the many emotions that truly tested my husband’s will and drive to succeed in this daunting medical process.
While failure teaches us valuable life’s lessons, he was fully aware that the failure(s) had already transpired - over the past 8 years and of no fault of his own. So, there was NO QUITTING on this leg of the race - failure was NOT an option.
Every winner loses but, not every loser wins; and by golly, this winner was going to WIN!
I can’t tell you how many times during this process the terms ‘quit’ and ‘give up’ ran through his head. As I have mentioned to so many people in my life since July, I don’t think I could do what he’s done. He continually inspired not just me but, everyone following his story - he pulled something from within. That something was a healthy mix of strength, steadfastness, perseverance, resoluteness, determination, tenacity - whatever you want to call it - downright true grit & chutzpah!
This Olympic moment needs no introduction but, boy, what determination. Derek Redmond was bound & determined to finish that race - win or lose, he didn’t go to Barcelona to quit - no matter what.
The following quotes, whether you’re facing a daunting medical therapy, going through relationship issues or work/career/fitness challenges, may also give you something to ponder. 🤔
“Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries.” ―James A. Michener
“Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” ―Vince Lombardi
“There is no failure except in no longer trying.” ―Elbert Hubbard
“You just can’t beat the person who won’t give up.” ―Babe Ruth (Think: The Tortoise & The Hare!)
Dig deep from within, unearthing your intestinal fortitude; give it your all and you’ll never regret having done so - even if you don’t succeed. Remember, there is no failure - you either win or you learn!
Happy Monday Everyone!
