How important is color?

I was reading a post by Kathy Streib this morning Yes Color can Make a Difference and I was thinking about a program I saw on Netflix called ABSTRACT, The Art of Design, which is all about design. Fascinating program from different viewpoints and each program can stand on its own, so you don't need to see the whole series.

Light Spectrum

The first one I watched was from Season 2 about Olafur Eliasson, he begins discussing color, and using a light that removes colour he has a color spectrum behind him which looks monochromatic. Then he pulls a chain switch and the colour spectrum burst into color. He then goes on to discuss how different colors bring different moods, using colr card right up against the screen to change the lighting in your room if you have turned off allother lights as he suggests at the start of the program, to use the television as a light. Fascinating program and worth watching.

In fact out of the ones I have seen I am not disappointed and makes you look at life, nature, and everything around you in a different way. I know I love being out in nature, it relaxes me and helps me to center myself from the stresses of the day.

What I understand is that color can do that as well, maybe rooms decorated with a shade of green will have the same effect, and maybe we all react differently, so possibly having different lights to create different shades will be a thing for the future. Who knows but color is important.

How often do you show a home and wonder what the homeowner was thinking when they painted? I know it can make a difference, so suggest your clients discuss color with a designer before they select that strong dark color just before they sell their home.

Good afternoon Nick. I too read Kathy's post and agree that color matters a lot.

It was interesting watching the program and actually having all the lights turned off and using the TV as a light, it changed the mood in the room as he changed the colors. Fascinating Sheila Anderson.

Nick, it is a tough sell when homeowners paint all the secondary rooms the colors the kids want.   Some are VERY bold.

Hi Nick- I can't wait to watch that program on Netflix. And Joan Cox our good friends let their daughters choose their bedroom colors and the pinks were so vivid you almost had to wear sunglasses. When they remodeled their home, she had the decorator give them 3 colors to choose from!!

Hi Nick... I believe color is very impactful on human beings. I despise dark green and maroon... if I'm around them for long, I get depressed. I've been known to check into hotels and make them change my room if it's been overdone with those colors.

We tend to take color for granted, but there's a lot to the science of color.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel that is very true, I have noticed with real estate signs, many of the new companies in our area use very confusing branding to the extent you cannot see the company or the agent name on the sign.

Joan Cox I had a client who the very first house I sold for them she had painted one of the rooms a vivid pink, and every home after we referred to that room.

Kathy Streib I understand the pink, see my comment above, and having three colors is good, too many makes it hard to select.

Nina Hollander I think maroon might do that to me too, not sure about green, depends on the shade.

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 that is very true, I had never realized that till watching this program I referenced.

Hello Nick - color is definitely a choice that can make a difference in many ways,  It's not just the shade or the vibrancy of the chosen hue but the technique, application and flow that can influence a person.

Michael Jacobs never thought about the technique and application etc and how that can affect someone, but this program is definitiely opening my eyes to that.
