Bryan Donkin was born in Northumberland, England back in 1768. His father was a surveyor, he started out in the same business, but in 1789 to 1791, he worked as a bailiff at Knole House. His dream was to be an engineer, so he apprenticed under John Hall, completing is apprenticeship in 1785.
By 1820, he was the director of the Thames Tunnel Company, he supplied pumps for removing water from the tunnel. He regularly supplied machinery for civil engineering projects. There is so much more I can write about him, but this post would be the largest one written, so I’ll cut right to the chase.
What you may not know about Bryan is that he developed the first paper making machine, before then all paper was made by hand, and created the world’s first commercial canning factory. He died in 1855, he was 86.
