Sunset over Camanche HillsLake Camanche, a newer community in Amador County, Camanche area is more spread out. Not so much a town as an area of growth outside of a town. If you are looking for a big lot to build on, with a good commute to Sacramento or Stockton, with great recreation nearby, Camanche is the place for you. Rolling hills and breathtaking vistas reminiscent of the legendary "West" Camanche is also has some of the more affordable real estate in Amador County, The trade off is that Ione is the closest city, about five miles to the north. Camanche Blues, a gas station and mini-mart, and La Bella Rosa Restaurant are the only retail type stores in the area, and they do an admirable job. Camanche Blues does have just about one of everything, and La Bella Rosa is some of the best dinning in the county, Some say "the best in five counties" Don't miss the home made tequila pie!

The lake it self I a wonderful recreational treasure, managed by East Bay Municipal Utilities District, great fishing, water skiing, and camping are all available, as are some very nice prefab homes with lake views and access.

Numerous homes with breathtaking views are available overlooking the lake. Many quite affordable.

Update

Sadly, La Bella Rosa is gone, Well not quite gone just moved and changed it's name. Now if you want what some say is the best food in five counties, you need to go to the Twisted Fork in the Ione hotel on Main Street in Ione.

The Lake Comanche community is a great area for affordable homes and "ranchetts."  The last I heard La Bella Rosa had closed up, but I'm not sure.  I will testify to the good food, especially the spaghetti and meat balls.

Another growing a community, but on the south side of Lake Comanche (although it is in Calaveras instead of Amador County) is Wallace.  Its attributes are similar to those of the Lake Comanche community.  Wallace does have a post office, gas station, and a few other small businesses.

The great news is that La Bella Rosa has Re-Opened as The Twisted Fork, in the Ione Hotel on Main Street in Ione. The Twisted Fork really does have great food, and now Ione has a great dining spot. The menu is very close to La Bella Rosa and the staff is too. So make reservations. This place is hooping!

PS glad to see you are posting!

I am keeping it for myself! I had to wait twenty minutes last time and I was hungry!

But really, the # is (209) 274-6082 the address is 25 W. Main Street, Ione, CA. 95640. It is in the Ione Hotel right across the street from the Post office.

If you want a real treat, call me before you are coming out and I will try to set up a tour of the Preston Castle. Yup, that big castle up on the hill over looking the whole town. I work with the foundation, trying to restore and do the upkeep on this old beauty. it was a "Boy's Home" for many years, now it sits derelict. But we are working on it.

Preston castle, Ione, CA.

I wanted to let you know that there is a great place for dining out in the Lake Camanche North Shore area. It is the Camanche Hills Sportsman Dinner House and Lounge. The location formerly housed La Bella Rosa.  They feature European American fusion cuisine which includes delicious Prime Rib, Pesto Prawns, Chicken Picatta, Fish & Chips, and much more! Check out their Facebook page for Dinner Specials and the Live Entertainment Schedule! Their lounge has a fully stocked bar, too. It's the perfect place to bring friends and enjoy the evening. Like they say at Camanche Hills Sportsman, come on down for "Good Food, Good Times and Good Spirits"!!
