Welcome New Member Rick Howes - Working as a full time Realtor on the beach (Pensacola Beach) has Rick Howes Pensacola Beach Realtorits perks. And one of my favorites is all the true characters I have the great pleasure of working with. Please welcome a great addition to the Active Rain network and one of those true characters, Mr. Rick Howes.

As many of you know, Resort Realtors tend to be a different breed. We spend a lot of time catering to people who are on vacation and that can be a lot of fun. However . . . our clients don't always realize we aren't on vacation too and walking that line between professional working stiff and party animal can be a challenge for some.

My good friend, Rick Howes, has the entire balancing act down and is an inspiration to clients and colleagues as well. I'd like to share some things to help you get to know Rick a little better:

  1. Rick tells one of the funniest stories I have ever heard, no kidding. Although Rick tells it better, it goes something like this . . . in the '70s he was living in Atlanta and heard about a group called the Commodores. He went to see them perform and as he was walking into the large concert venue, albiet a little late for the show, he heard his name blaring from the speakers, "It's a Rick Howes, Mighty might just lettin it all hang out, it's a Rick Howes." He said he looked all around, wondering just who told them he was coming to the show . . . he only learned later the song was "Brick House."
  2. Rick drives the coolest car, a Porsche Boxter, and he turned my husband and I on to the coolest vacations we have ever had - driving brand new Porsches at lightening speed through the German and Swiss Alps. We're saving our pennies to do the trip again for the third time!
  3. Finally, Rick is married to another super beach Realtor, Jodie. Together Rick and Jodie make a great team and really help round out our beach office.

Please send Rick (and Jodie) some Active Rain love and make them feel at home here!

Robin,

Great to have Rick join the Rain. This network if any can make a nice difference for a real estate agent or a mortgage lender in Internet marketing. Welcome and happy blogging.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to Robin and all you folks that have been so kind to welcome me to Active Rain. I'll try to hold up my end of the bargain and put forth some items that might be of interest. Sorry for the delay in responding for the first time. Hopefully I'm doing this right.

I had an incounter this past week with something we all dread. It was sorta like going to the Doctor and having him tell you that you have cancer...but they might have caught it in time.. but not sure. In Florida it's not IF but WHEN you get TERMITES. I had no evidence that we had a problem until about two weeks ago. Now I'm afraid to park my beloved Porsche in the garage because the 'stucco expert' and other dooms day experts said that the garage door might come down at any time. I've been told that the joke among the pest control people is that all that is holding up the wall, ceiling or what ever are the termites, and when you kill the little buggers your entire house may fall down. Now, I know this is not a laughing matter especially when you don't have a termite bond. The bug man has assured me that with the treatments done that they should all be dead within 30 days. At that time I will have someone come in and cut into the walls of my garage, where hopefully they will discover that in fact we have caught it in time and all that we need to do is remove a million dead critters and replace some 2x4 or larger supports that have been used for food since Thanksgiving a year ago by the colony. Bug people are really something. I believe they have been sniffing the DTD too long. They personalize the termites. Those pesky flying guys are mostly looking to reproduce, and most die quickly. The soldiers are there to repair any damage to the colony and the rest just dine on the basic structure of your home. The queen as most, just sits around giving orders mainly to the soldiers. My bug man told me that they did a great service. When a tree falls in the forest, and if you can hear it or not makes no difference. They attack the tree, climbing over rocks and stones and they destroy the log. How Cool. He said that the termites in my house simply thought that they were climbing over rocks (my driveway) and attacked my 'logs' which happen to be holding up my garage. They have a bizarre sence of humor. I will keep my fingers crossed that we have 'caught it in time' and that with modern technology I can continue to park my belove Porsche in the garage without fear that my Christmas decorations in the storage above won't come falling down. I'll keep you posted.
