Los Angeles home staging company, Moving Mountains Design & Home Staging has formed a strategic alliance with Chatsworth, CA based moving and storage company North Star Moving.

I first found out about Ram Katalan and North Star Moving from an article in Fortune Small Business Magazine titled Moving On Up. When I read the article, I realized this guy Ram was one smart cookie. After realizing that the imploding real estate market in Los Angeles County would probably effect his bottom line with his middle income clients, he set his sites on the high-end market, which tends to be more stable during market downturns like the one we are currently experiencing. He added premium services such as pet sitters, professional organizing and professional nannies and baby sitters to add more value for his clients. And his business has grown where other moving companies are seeing their business shrink. I thought that forming an alliance with an exceptional home staging company would fit his business model and be of benefit to his clients.

Here is a video How Do You Move A Hollywood Mansion which was produced by North Star Moving:

I felt that a strategic alliance would be beneficial to both our companies, so I called and set up a meeting. We discussed what we felt our companies could offer each other, and both of us agreed that forming an alliance would benefit both our bottom lines. Besides being an incredibly nice guy, Ram has an amazing customer service ethic and tons of awards, recognition and the highest ratings from Angie's List , The Franklin Report and www.MovingInsurance.com.

Here is a quote from Ram's AR profile: "The company's services include local, long distance, international, residential, and commercial moves, as well as full-service storage. NorthStar Moving Corporation’s mission is to exceed their clients’ expectations with graceful customer care and to move service back into what should have always been the ultimate service industry: the moving industry."

Since we have formed our alliance, I have had the opportunity to recommend North Star Moving to several of my home owner and real estate agent clients. In every instance, North Star exceeded my clients expectations and they made me look like a genius for recommending them. And in return, they have referred clients to me. It is a win-win situation for us and for our clients.

What a very smart strategic move, Michelle, to form such an alliance.  I viewed the video and you're right; they're pros.  I even noticed they had wrapped the mattress.  That, in my opinion, confirms your point about the level of service they provide.  Good for you!

Kathy: When I read the article, a light bulb went on in my head. It has been a great move on both our parts. Their warehouse, which is 107,000 sq. ft. is so clean, you could eat off the floor. He runs an amazing operation.

Michelle, this is great. I firmly believe alliancrs are what we need to move our business forward, and to expand our target markets without spending lots of money on marketing. I get so many referrals from my alliances and I in turn send them lots of business. Great post - its a keeper. Needs to be on the newbie sight.

Karen: I loved your Reciprocity blog. Thank you so much. Kym: I receive publicity when North Star sends out a press release and they receive publicity from me. It truly is a great match. I'm very happy we hooked up. Thanks for commenting:-))

Good for you, Michelle! I'm glad to hear this has worked out for you and the details hammered out. They were very helpful and professional when I talked to them as well (when you refered them to me way-back-when) so I'm glad to see you working stratigically with them - bravo!

Thanks for sharing your alliance with AR.  The video shows they do exceptional preparation, packing and moving-a great company.  Congratulations on your successful strategic alliance and more future plans with North Star Moving!

Michelle, you are so smart to have formed such a necessary business alliance to Staging.  I have had such an alliance almost since I started staging professionally, and at this point  I cannot imagine doing a project without my guys.  I call them my secret weapon.  They leave me free to do all the heavy creating while they do all the heavy lifting and carrying, and SO carefully!  They have never damaged let alone broken ANYTHING.  And, you're right about the kudos you receive when you recommend them to clients.

Michelle, what an excellent thing you have done! You have the knack for finding just the right people to form alliances with! That is one of the many reasons I'm so proud to call you FRIEND. You have given me the momentum I needed to persue some alliances which we have been thinking about out here too. Thank You!

Yvonne: Just like social networking, these kinds of alliances can help drive new business for us. It is free targeted advertising. I am finding that many home owners are calling moving companies first to get bids before they even talk to a real estate agent. And many home owners call in a stager to help them with decluttering and pre-packing. My movers offer a packing service as well as storage and full service moving. It helps my clients move ahead with their packing and moving process. I love being helpful!

When you find a good one - stick with them.  Alliances can be powerful. You researched them, got up close and personal and now here you are with a company that will benefit you and your clients (which benefits you - did I say that again?)

Kathleen: North Star Moving is a real gem. They do what they say they are going to do, when they say they are going to do it. Ram, the owner, told me that he would rather pay $100 with a smile to have a piece of furniture repaired than get into an argument with the client over whether the piece was scratched prior to moving or who's fault it was. He is a prince among men, and his employees share his enthusiasm for great customer service.

Michelle:  Perhaps this is a resource that I could use also.  I am not so happy with the company that I am using now.  I am glad to see this partnership is working.

Michelle - what a great partnership. We recently formed an alliance with a moving company. It just makes sense doesn't it?

The key is working together and it seems like you've got that down pat!
