I believe this is also the case in North Carolina, Pete... but wouldn't swear to it. I did get a new roof some years back after hail damage... but as my car is garaged, there was no damage to it so I didn't ask about it. But I believe some of my neighbors did get their cars fixed as part of their insurance converage. Now I need to call my insurance broker and ask.

Yes, you're correct. The carriers will not raise individual rates just because of a compressive claim. They can decide to raise their rates by zip code and regionally if deemed necessary, no matter if the affected single policy holder files a comprehensive claim or not. Best to file those comprehensive claims and collect on their rightful benefits!

Pete Xavier - It really pays to pay attention and read insurance plans, especially when they send out Amendments to the policies! Here in Texas, they take depreciation into consideration and my policy doesn't have to pay if I don't file a claim in a number of years (I think it's 10 for hail damage, but I'll need to check), so I definitely need to find out!

With the hurriance damages to the Houston and Gulf Coast, many policies have been changed.

Yes, you're correct, one must pay attention to their policy inclusions & exclusions.


When filing a comprehensive claim with any carrier, it's best to do it ASAP, most insurance carrier allow up to one year to file a claim from the date of the incident. Always best to check directly with the insurance company for clarification.
