Fall Seems Shorter this Year in Denver

Fall in Denver Colorado was slightly ruined this year. If this sounds like an exaggeration, I invite you to have a drive along Monaco Parkway, 7th Avenue or University Boulevard. These are famously beautiful streets to drive along in the Fall season, as the mature trees are so large they meet above the road, creating brilliant canopies of red, gold and yellow. Even though we don’t have leases end for our Denver property management portfolio this time of year, we do still make a point to visit the areas we manage, just to see the trees. Some trees are so red you can hardly believe they aren’t on fire. When juxtaposed against a bright blue, cloudless sky, combined with crisp 60-degree weather, you can see why Fall is one of the best times of the year in Denver. This year however, Mother Nature had different plans. There was an early freeze with a very minor snowfall. This does not bode well for that great transition period. Instead some trees leap frogged the changing stage and went straight into their brown and dusty death look. Since this freeze came early, most of the leaves stayed on the trees, so we know have full trees with brown leaves. The rapid onset of cold weather caused other trees that may have been slightly before the brown stage to simply lose all their leaves overnight or during any minor gust of wind. The result are ugly trees while the weather has bounced back and become that mild sunny Fall we are used to. It is not a great sight to behold and makes the nice period where there is no bad weather present a little less magical. Maybe next year will be better.
