Energy-Like everything else is changing

WE all know how high Gas has gone in the last month.  In my area a gallon is about $4.40 a gallon, with some analyst saying that it will keep going up at least through the 4th of July weekend. Diesel is even higher effecting truckers and our nations ability to get products around.

I have a car that only gets about 20 mpg and I am being effected in my decisions of where to go and when. In the past I would just go, now, I think twice, because I don't like going to the gas station more than once a week to pay $75.00 to fill up.  So, I evaluate more, where I go, and how I can get there.

But, while I know we will need to depend on oil for the future, we should be encouraging more development for alternatives. I just read in the paper, that Germany (that has a weather similar to Canada, has more solar homes per capita than Southern California,(where it would really make sense).

Southern California, has so much sunlight, that people who put solar panels on their roof, can generate more electricity than their home needs would be, yet the utilities in the south won't give money for generating excess electric. They will credit you for excess electric against your future use, but will not pay for it. (There is legislation in the works to alter this).

We really need to be developing a national will to use any and every means to reduce our looming energy crisis. The price of fuel right now is impacting the economy, and while their is no quick fix, the ability to have tax rebates and incentives on making a home solar would help, along with utilities paying for excess generated electricity that your home produces (It doesn't even have to be at market value, it can be purchased at a discount- and still be a win/win).

There was a story in yesterday's newspaper about an apartment complex that had a number of units, and they were going to put solar panels on 8 carport areas. SDG&E came out and told them, it wouldn't make sense to do all 8, since doing just 3 carport areas would give them enought electric for all their units, and that putting the rest on, would just be a waste, since SDG&E wouldn't pay them for the excess. So the complex just went with 3.

Don't you think we need to do what we can, when we have the means and the ability?

We also need to allow some more oil refineries to be built, because, we haven't had a new one built in the US in over 30 years!.  We need to make a massive national effort to get our energy needs under control of our own borders.

What do you think?

Seriously you would think we would all do that. But the problem is too many businesses are in bed with oil and other fuel companies and to suggest something otherwise to them would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Heather: That is part of the problem, but oil could be one of the ones benefitting, expecially for more refineries, plus they have the money now, they could be investing in alternate sources for their own pockets.

Your right, think about it, if we had a good public transit system, can someone say Perris France, and government incentives that would shorten the payback period on fossil fuel alternatives we would have it made.

Take care!
