Sleep Another Hour!
Nov 3rd Fall Back Time
Sunday night, November 3rd -- Set Clocks Back!!!!
Sleep Another Hour!!!!!
Yes, it is that time already - Fall has arrived and it is time to change the clocks!
History tells us that New Zealand scientist George Vernon Hudson and British builder William Willett brought up the idea in 1895. Hudson presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society, proposing a 2-hour shift forward in October and a 2-hour shift back in March. Check out the website TimeandDate.com for lots more stories.
While many people know that Germany and Austria were the first countries to institute Daylight Savings Time, not so many know that some citizens of CANADA were the first to actaually do it!
On July 1, 1908, the residents of Port Arthur, Ontario, today's Thunder Bay, turned their clocks forward by one hour to start the world's first DST period.
Daylight Saving Time is now used in over 70 countries worldwide and affects over one billion people every year. The beginning and end dates may vary.
In Mainland United States, only Arizona exercises the right given in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to abstain from participation in DST. The state (mostly) stays on Standard Time all year long. Our island state of Hawai'i does not use DST and neither do territories, such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands.
