Cleaning out the "closet" in your life...

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential

Good morning!

I had an interesting day of work yesterday. Well, it was probably interesting on several levels, but I will focus on the work side this morning…

I had two of the homes I had listed for sale come off the market without selling…

That rarely happens to me. Honestly, most of my listings sell quite quickly, often the first weekend they are on the market…

This wasn’t the case with these two homes. One got very few showings. The other got a whole bunch of showings, but no contract offers. Both were on the market for several months, and probably weren’t going to sell at the price they were at…

Either way, both came off the market without selling. I think the sellers were tired of the process. And I understand. Keeping your home ready for sale for several months can be draining…

So I canceled the listings, and felt a boost of energy. I was actually a bit surprised at how good it felt...

You see, losing two listings in one day would probably be worrisome to most agents. And there was a time it would have been bothersome to me…

However, I am looking at things differently over the last several months. A healthier attitude…

I believe things happen for a reason. I know that they do…

And sometimes you need to clean out your closet to make room for your new beautiful clothes…

And yesterday, I cleaned out the “closet” of my real estate business…

I freed up my own mental energy. Opening myself up to new things, new people, new opportunities, and at the end of the day, new homes to sell…

Sometimes the “stuff” we hold on to so desperately in life takes up space that could be used for better things. This is true with our habits, our relationships, and life in general…

So take a look at the closet in your life. Are you holding on to something that you would be better off to let go?

I know I do that. I think we all probably do. And sometimes it feels so good to let go…

Have an awesome Friday!

Ken

IDK how much you know about astrology but I have PLUTO (the cosmic 'eliminator') very strong in my chart. So I am very quick to lose the crap in my life and feel immediate improvement when I ditch 'dead weight'.

My favorite CCIM instructor has a boutique company in Vegas. They systematically remove on 12-31 the most problematic client in their inventory to start the new year with one less headache. I told her in Feng Shui and magickal practice, the removing of ANYTHING that holds you back is actually an OFFERING to the gods, creating a 'sacred vacuum' in your energy to be filled with 'better'.

ANY TIME I drop a client, I ask Spirit, 'If I was correct, replace with better'. WORKS EVERY TIME.

I have a client calling every other day to waste my time - his listing expired and it was a big dollar listing, but he's a problem and I don't want him back. A MUCH BETTER listing came right on its heels with cooperative folks! Confirmation.

So now you will get 3 more wonderful listings. You watch!

My husband used to say "Some day you'll run out of people to fire." I would say 'it hasn't happened yet'  . . .

It still hasn't happened yet. LOL

I'm liberating them!

Hey Ken Tracy glad you got the 'cleaning out the closet' idea going for you.  I've been doing that for years and it opens so many more doors and frees up the energy.  I let a client go a few weeks ago as he had so much resistance to doing what needed to be done.  Ok fine......and I haven't looked back. I always wish folks well on their journey.  And keep on smiling!!

This is such an important message and bears repeating time and time again. We're all guilty of hanging on too long to things we shouldn't. Glad you're feeling good about getting rid of those houses that just won't sell.

I do have to agree with you. Sometimes we just have to let go to enjoy the freedom it brings.  I also hate to lose a listing but there is a reason for all things.  Moving on with new ones is a better choice than to stress of why these homes are not selling. As long as we do all we can on our end, I would move on to cleaning out the closet for a new wardrobe.

You are so right, losing dead-weight is absolutely freeing. It can be a toxic person, burdensome listing, or our own attitude. If something feels out of alignment with our energy and purpose, it has to go - the sooner the better. Really enjoy your posts. D

There just comes a time when you know they won't sell. They become a dead weight . . . always brings me back to the old real estate saying . . . I want to be their first love, their second wife, and their third Realtor.

Glad you opened yourself up to better things.

Hi Ken- Love, love, love your post. A few years ago I had a client that made me cringe whenever I saw his number on my phone. I knew that nothing I did would satisfy him. I withdrew from the project and gave him the same of another stager. At that point I felt like I could dance on the moon!
