What Am I Thankful for Today?
I am so thankful for food and to have the luxury to go out anytime and shop for whatever I want. A luxury some people will never have. I also feel blessed that I can help others have the same.
Do you know how lucky we are to live in the United States of America? We have an abundance of food and have so many choices of what we want to eat.
Any time of the day, I can go to the refrigerator or pantry and get food. Or, go to the store and buy what I want to eat. There are so many people here in the States that do not have this luxury. Of course, there are many other countries where people are dying because there's no food and many, especially children, are dying of malnutrition.
I help support the Bread of Life Foundation Namibia. Below is a photo of a child, Anna George, that I sponsor for $26.00 a month providing food and the gospel.
The thought of children here in the U.S. and in other countries going hungry breaks my heart. I saw on Facebook a photo of a little boy sleeping on the ground with a rock as a pillow. This should never happen to a child.
My parents had to provide food for 11 children. We didn't have soda, ice cream, cookies, and candy every day, but we certainly had three good meals a day. My mom was a great cook and we never went hungry. Even when the coal mines were on strike, we always had our three meals a day.
Looking back, our family was rich. Rich and blessed with food, love, and laughter. I wish every child in the world could have three good meals a day.
For the past six years, our local Board of Realtors helps "Feed the Need". We collect can food and money for all the local food banks. In October, we had our annual cake/pie auction. One agent, Terry Baker, does all the baking for the auction. We collected $6,000 from this auction. A great way to help the local food banks and get a nice cake or pie to boot.
The Chair of the "Feed the Need" campaign challenged all brokers/agents to match his $100 donation. To date, he has received $6,000. Altogether, we have collected over $12,000 and we haven't even started the food collections. This starts this weekend.
I am so thankful for food and to have the luxury to go out anytime and shop for whatever I want. A luxury some people will never have. I also feel blessed that I can help others have the same.
