DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY.
THOSE THREE HALLOWED WORDS REVERENTLY
DICTATE WHAT YOU OUGHT TO BE, WHAT YOU CAN BE,
WHAT YOU WILL BE." ---DOUGLAS MACARTHUR
Three strangers came together and had dinner last night. Myself and two gentlemen. We were the only three in the restaurant and we each sat at different tables. Before the waitress got to me, one man leaned over and we started talking. As a New Yorker his voice projected and our conversations got real interesting. It didn't take long before the gentleman on the other side of the room carried his plate, fork, and glass across the room to the other man's table and I automatically followed. We talked and ate our meals, discussing hot issues that are important. As Veterans and as a widow of a Veteran we all had more than a mouthful to say. Respectfully, we listened without judgment.
It seemed as though the three of us were meant to be there and the other man said, this is what our country needs, people to sit down and talk about the issues we are hearing on the news and discuss them as civil human beings. The other man, a Teacher with a different accent made a point to say, these are global issues about war impacting everyone on earth. We the people need to talk like human being and share our viewpoints and stories.
It did not take long to realize there were common threads between the three of us. As stories unfolded, we began to recognize we were more the same than different. Eyewitness news from Vets who have been fighting for freedom, the gripping stories about the impact current events have on families and children, our economy, and how students react as a result of what's going on in their homes and schools was enlightening. The soldiers that serve aren't coming from Ivy League schools and although young when enlisted, many who survive are wiser by far. There is a lot of sickness in our country and mental health is real. When people stop relying on fake news and learn to talk and get along and if there is genuine faith, liberty and freedom can be great at home and globally.
I cannot express my gratitude any clearer today as I did yesterday and everyday for their services.
