New to Blogging? Don’t Worry About What We Think!

While trolling the blogroll at ActiveRain to find interesting posts to feature in my Sunday series, I’ve noticed many new bloggers in the community.  Love blogit!!!

Every community needs an infusion of “new” to keep it alive.

And if you’re like many of us were when we began blogging, the hardest thing is finding your voice.

Market reports and listings aside, offering posts that let your reader learn more about you helps to build a readership who will relate to you and want to read more from you.

Here are a few tips for your blogging journey…

Don’t worry about what we think.

There are many who have already reached the I don’t care what they think level but for the most part, we’re all human and we DO care about what others think about what we write.

However, if you let what we might think color what you say, we may never get to know who you really are.

By the way...the members here are honest and at the same time, kind (for the most part.) There is always someone who will tell you what they think of your post.

DO worry if…

You are not following the ActiveRain Community Guidelines.

What you write could be considered libelous.

What you write is not yours

What you write about could hurt your business.

If you write something and someone sees a different point of view….that’s ok.  Remember… it’s YOUR blog. We may politely tell you that we disagree, or we may just stop by to say “hello.”  But in any event, go ahead…. don’t worry about what we think of what you write.. we’ll tell you in some form or fashion!

That’s the beauty of ActiveRain.

Hi Kathy we all started blogging somewhere. Newbies will either learn the ropes and find their voice. I do think they'll find we're a good bunch of people, not like is found on other platforms. Respect matters here.

Hi Kathy,
One of the beauties of blogging is our uniqueness.  We each have something to say and can say it in our own "voice"... as long as we avoid you "Do worry" list. It sometimes takes a while to develop our voice but once we do it becomes fun sharing our thoughts and ideas.  Soon we find there is a never ending supply of fodder for our blog.

faye schubert we can make suggestions to help bloggers but ultimately, it's their blog.

Candice A. Donofrio the grammar is something that does make my skin crawl. I look for originality and someone speaking in their own voice. Thank you for the feature in Bartender Make It a Double.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® Thank you!!! They say most organizations have a turnover of sorts every 7 years or so. Not sure where I read that.

Sheila Anderson If we did, our blogs probably would all sound alike.

Brian England I'm not as good at doing that as I'd like to be.

Mimi Foster I totally agree with you. We don't get to see who they truly are and don't get that there could be copyright infringement. You can usually tell by the way the post is formatted.

Grant Schneider It's how we grow!

Elisa Uribe Realtor #01427070 When we can open our minds to a new/different point of view, we grow and learn.

George Souto That's too bad. And if you look at the number of members who come and go here, we need new members.

Thanks Kathy, Blogging in the rain has so many advantages.  The exposure of the blog and comments to the blog - the points of view of other members shed even more light on the subject.  SEO, learning, and growth all on the same site.

Find a voice, find what works for their market, and repeat as needed while still throwing in the occasional "here's who I am" is a pretty good formula for blogging.  You've got some strong advice on the what to do and what not to do in this community.

Hi Kathy:

You have certainly shared some wise advice for those who are starting out blogging here on AR. I think it can be intimidating putting yourself out there in words if it's a new experience, and being concerned about what others think about what you have to say...and yes, they will tell you...is to be expected to some degree!!

But think of the loss if you don't step up, start finding your voice, and share your thoughts so other can benefit. Expecting that everyone will agree with you is not realistic...here or in the real world.

Jeff
