My two daughters opened savings accounts today at a state-chartered bank.  The new account manager took the time to walk them through the savings account process, how to enter info in the register, how to use deposit slips, etc.  It was a great experience, and probably one that the bigger national banks couldn't have provided.  While I get great service at the national bank I use for business accounts, I'm extremely impressed with the small-town feel of the local banks, and how attentive they are to business and personal needs.  They even know and remember my name.  Yes, it's probably (in part) because they have to stand out to survive...but that's exactly what I want in a bank...someone who stands out.  So my congratulations to Syringa Bank in Eagle, Idaho.  They did a great job helping my daughters understand banking better than before.

It's how you treat a person that makes you stand out where they remember you.

Thats what I love about NE Georgia. I ran out of deposit slips last week and had to use blank ones the next couple of times at the drive-thru. The 3rd time when I pulled up to the window the girl had one in the tray with my name and account number on it. I was a little shocked (just a little) told her thank you. She said you don't have to thank me, just bring me some of your potato salad i've heard so much about....... Got to love it.

Sorry to the large national bankers out there but every chance I get I recommend that EVERYONE should have a PERSONAL relationship with your local banker.  While working on mortgage files and trying to get all the required documents together for closing many times borrowers have a hard time getting what we need in a timely manner from national banks, no problems local banks.  There isn't enough room in this post to list all of the benefits I have received from my local bankers

That is great. Good for your daughters that they are doing this. And congrats to the local bank who helped them.

Lynn, Michael, Mark and the Benjamins...thanks for your comments.  I think it's clear that while preemption might give national banks a competetive edge, the local banks have figured out what really matters most...excellent service!  :)  Thanks for adding your thoughts!
