Some pet friendly condos have more pet amenities than others, restrict certain types, sizes, and amounts of pets and may have certain vetting requirements and or require board approval for pet residency. The Hivahiva Kealoha Neighborhood Pet Guide offers you a pet-centric perspective of some of Honolulu's most popular neighborhoods.

Nu'uanu is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Honolulu and in ancient times the Nu'uanu Ahupua'a was widely cultivated with Kalo, with lo'i running high into the valley. Remnants of Nu'uanu's agricultural importance can still be found in lava rock terraces and irrigation ditches found through out the valley and running through the yards of many homes in the area.
The lush valley neighborhood, is at a notably cooler elevation making it a popular place to habituate since ancient times. Residences consist of high-rises, low-rises, smaller apartment buildings, single family homes and large estates. The area has a patchwork of architectural styles and cultural influences, with some larger properties having been broken up into smaller parcels over time.
There are many places of worship located in Nu'uanu, representing faiths from around the world and the bulk of foreign consulates are found here, as well. The translation of the word Nu'uanu from the Hawaiian is 'sacred higher ground', and it is here that one will find Mauna Ala, Royal Mausoleum and State Monument and The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The primary streets in the neighborhood include Nu'uanu Ave, School Street, Nu'uanu Pali Drive, Pacific Heights Road, and The Pali Highway.
The Nu'uanu neighborhood has some notable establishments such as the Historic Hanaiakamalama or Queen Emma's Summer Palace. The modest palace was the summer retreat of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV and is now an historic landmark and cultural museum operated by the Daughters of Hawaii as a nonprofit.
The Oahu Country Club, the oldest private club in Hawaii is located in the verdant valley. The Club features an 18 hole golf course, multiple member dining venues, and many amenities including a heated swimming pool and fitness facility.
The dominant geographical feature in Nu'auanu is the towering Ko'olau mountain range and The Pali, or the precipitous cliff facing the Windward side of the island. At the top of the valley one can find several public hiking trails in Nu'unau Pali State Park and The Pali Lookout offers panoramic views of Windward O'ahu.
The Historic Battle of Nu'uanu, (Hawaiian name for the battle was Kalelekaʻanae, or leaping mullet) was fought here in 1795. The pivotal battle witnessed the slaying of the Oahuan King Kalanikupule and his defending armies pushed to their deaths off the Ko'olau's sheer face. The location marked the end of King Kamehameha's struggle to unite the archipelago into one kingdom.
The Nu'uanu neighborhood has no defined commercial center but there are several retail areas in lower Nu'uanu and what the neighborhood lacks in retail and commercial services it makes up for by it's proximity to Downtown Honolulu. The neighborhood does have several establishments providing services as related to the various religious institutions located in the valley. This includes private schools, places of worship, community and conference centers.
There are many Pet Friendly Hiking Trails(leash only) found in Nu'uanu and Ko'olau.
