Yesterday and today we were in "production mode" for the flock of turkeys we delivered to clients, friends, neighbors...and people who were spending their first Thanksgiving without a loved one. While it is a "tasty day" of celebration for many people...it is difficult when there is an empty chair...the traditional turkey carving has to be done by someone else...the pie that was always baked by....will not be this year.
We know it well because my Mom passed away in home hospice in our home on Thanksgiving seven years ago. It has taken us a while to begin our own traditions on this day. We will spend it continuing on our Turkey delivery route and at the homes of several people celebrating Friendsgiving and bring additional appetizers and side dishes. We LOVE to cook...and "Foodanimals"...yes yet another word from the Hanson dictionary...bring smiles on this day...as is our intention.
We will never forget the Thanksgivings when we celebrated with my Dad carving the Turkey...My Mom baking pies...mine was always apple..and the rec room filled with avid sports fans still grazing on appetizers as the day continued. We will hold those memories in our hearts for a lifetime.
Today...we will make new memories and hope to a bring a smile or two...and send hugs...real and virtual to the people who we are proud to count as Friends on this holiday of remembrance for all the wonderful people we are grateful to have in our lives.
Amen and Women.
