Hi,

I am curious if you've come across a scam that I recently heard of, where foreign renters say they want to rent. They send a bogus money order or bank cheque and before the funds clear (or don't in this instance), they ask for a refund because they will not be coming to America after all. The unknowing property manager or landlord is bamboozled out of their bucks.

Frances - the SCAM you refer to has been around a LONG TIME.....Craigslist even has a section on their website about SCAMS....I have not heard of a property manager being scammed; however, many individual landlords have been scammed when the "tenant's" check does not clear.
