DO YOU SHARE YOUR DOG'S TRAITS?

By
Real Estate Agent with Sotheby's International Realty Canada - Brokerage

What kind of a dog you have tells more about you then you know.  From pure breeds to the best loved mutts, each dog will have a personality or habit that it shares with the owner.  (Some dog owners even share their dogs look - you've seen them on Letterman)

I have 2 Australian Shepherds and if we believe the above, what this says about me is that I am:

Easy going, a perpetual puppy that loves to play. Courageous, loyal and affectionate.  Excellent children's companion and great with active children.  A devoted friend and guardian,  naturally protective.  Very lively, agile and attentive -  eager to please, with a sixth sense about what is wanted. Highly intelligent and easy to train. Though aggressive when at work, gentle with human friends. Needs lots of exercise and a job to do, very intelligent, active and easily bored. Can become nervous and destructive if left alone too much without exercise. Naturally suspicious of strangers.  Quiet workers, unlike some which are bred to bark constantly.

I guess that is me in a nutshell thanks to my dog selection!  What does your dog selection say about you?

This is Kylie our adopted girl and below is Sheila who chose her!

I guess my dog selection doesn't say much about me. I don't have one.
I don't think I would be bringing it into a very good environment... I live with a very mouthy, bossy, very territorial 19 year old cat. :)  (but I do love dogs too)

Sylvie -  cats are probably sharing with each other about their people selection :0)

I just recently lost my 2 cats.  They were from a shelter at 5 weeks of age and they travelled the world with me.  At 22 years of age each, I lost them both within months of each other.   Unfortunately, the dog above who we adopted, should be named Alf -  hates cats (would rather eat them so you mights say she loves them)

Susan, I'm so sorry about your kitties.  I had 6 at one time.  The Mother cat is the only one left.

She outlived all her children.
She adopted me almost 20 years ago.  She ran into my house one cold Winter day and when I caught up with her in the basement, she was already cleaning the first kitten.  The other 5 were born while I helped.  I don't know what I will do when she leaves me. She has brought a lot of joy to my life.  Even now, when I'm cranky or not having a great day, she always puts a smile on my face (that's when she's not complaining that I left her alone too long and didn't leave her enough food). :)

Sylvie - she is lovely!  How sad for her to have outlived her kittens.   Continue to cherish her as much as she will allow you to :0)

HI, Susan,

My dog and I both like to eat a lot.  This is a common trait that we share.  Your dog is a beauty.  Below is a photo of Mimi, my Rhodesian Ridgeback, in a gentle repose.

That is one handsome pooch!

I have three dogs .  If I share all 3 of their personalities does that mean I have a multiple personality disorder?  :)

Lloyd -  Quite the dental work on Mimi - she looks so playful! No wonder you both like to eat with that energy (I noticed the tennis racket in the photo)   I love the photo!

Hey Trey (or should we call you Sybil?)  What are your 3 dogs?

Susan:  I don't have a dog, but I wanted to comment how beautiful your dog is.  I want to reach into the screen and pet it.  Sounds like a true companion.

Chris Ann - thank you for sweet comment!  That's exactly what we thought when we saw her photo online at the shelter.  We are her 4th family and she came with soooooo many warnings I'm sure it scared most people away.  We have another Aussie named Sheila (what else!) and we brought her to the Shelter to meet Kylie and they instantly clicked even tho Kylie supposedly couldn't be around other dogs or animals.   They are like cart horses gallopping around the yard, joined at the hip constantly.  I've included a picture of Sheila, her 'sister' at the top of the page now too.

Sandi - Great photo!   I've loved boxers since my cartoon days - they are great characters aren't they!   As for the similar physical characteristics . . .    I can't see your eyes so I can't say for sure :0)

Thanks Susan.  My eyes are green, and as for the crooked teeth ... my orthodontic work was done a long time ago (Ali is in desperate need).

Hmmm, pit bulls. Aggressive (not), tenatious, loyal, strong. I miss my babes.

Now I have Belle, a Wiemeranier. High strung, nervous, fragile...she *loves* me!

Dane - I have a client with 13 pit bulls.  She too calls them her babies.   There is only one that she trusts around me though.   My ex-neighbour in Ireland had a Wienmeranier named "Fugly" which I thought was totally inappropriate! (work it out)   Gorgeous dog but like you said "high strung and nervous".

Susan, Kylie's picture is a classic Aussie pose. Georgeous, though I can't say that your photo evokes the same sense :-)

I've got two Aussies of my own -- both special needs.
